Where does the SUGAR sneak in? Biggest culprit revealed :)
« on: March 26, 2011, 11:24:21 AM »
Vegetables!

As serial dieters we've been raised to eat salads and veggies as a way to lose weight but carbs add up incredibly fast in a salad bowl especially if we don't measure.

Example- A small tomato, 3 carbs. 1/4 cup of onion 2.5 carbs. 1/4 cup of bell pepper 1.5 carbs. 2 cups of lettuce 2 carbs.

9 net carbs for the above salad, not including dressing or any other toppings.

SOLUTION;

Measure everything including your dressing and choose the lowest carb ingredients for your salad. Cut way back on the tomato and onion, add fresh spinach (1/2 cup .3 net carbs) use scallions or fresh chives instead of onions, a little goes a long way. Add cucumber for bulk, 1/2 cup is 1 net carb and be sure to keep an accurate count for your daily total.

Hum......so that's how rabbits get FAT   :o

Yes indeed... Carbs are EXACTLY how rabbits (and other animals including humans) get fat!

Have you ever been on (or considered) a diet that emphasizes "Bunny Food"?
At some point, I think we all have.

With Easter coming up, this is a good example to help explain how carbs make us fat to those who do not understand FTS.
Let's keep winning folks over to FTS that desperately need it!!!
What you do today is what matters!

Thank you for pointing this out.  I have been trained to believe a BIG salad is a good thing.  I will make sure I count every carb in the bowl :)

Thanks, Doug! I was shocked when I found out a grilled chicken salad at McDs was 12 or 14 carbs, not including the dressing. I like the idea of replacing them with spinach, since it has so much more nutritional value than iceburg.
