apples
« on: April 18, 2011, 10:48:22 AM »
Last night I made something that I had seen somewhere cant remember exactly where.
I took a chayote peeled it cut in half to the seed out  and sliced it .I put it in a sauce pan with some butter sf maple syrup and some cinnamon. Let it simmer for about an hour the longer you leave it the better it taste . Serve it over some LC ice cream sprinkle with some walnuts. Served it to my family they all thought it was  apple . They all liked it very much.

Wow, momma chops!... That sounds so good! :)

Sadly, chayote (like jicama) are not available around here. :'(
I'll just have to find another alternative.

I was thrilled to find chayote in NW Montana recently. I found it at Smiths. I'm going to make some for dinner tonight, but not sure how I'm going to prepare it just yet. Your idea sounds great, momma chops.

This sounds so good.... I had the same idea but didn't know how I wanted to do it.  I ended up putting it in the oven to cook like a crisp with flax, sweetener and butter on top.... sadly I noticed that I accidentally used the "fully leaded" maple syrup  :'(  I was so mad at myself!!!  Thank goodness I noticed when putting the ingredients away.  :o  whew!!!  I had to throw it out.  :'( :'(   I have to say I really like the way the Chayote tastes raw even.  Momma chops how much of every thing did you use??  My house smells so wonderful right now though....LOL  so glad I can laugh at myself ;D ;D ;D

Hi TooSweet! :)

I hope you threw out that maple syrup too!!!

Sounds like it's time for you to clean out your cupboards and pantry.

Umpa I already have that...LOL  I guess I need to go to it for a while until I get used to cooking with different items.. I will have to break my habit of just throwing things together  ;D ;D  I didn't think about looking in there for Chayote recipes..... I will look to your wisdom next time  ;)  I was really disappointed I couldn't eat it  :'(

Mouseissue I really wish I could throw all sugar items out.  Sadly My husband is a little resistant with my new way of eating.  It is tough for sure having to fix his food and than mine.  I am really hoping that he will see how well I am doing and it will encourage him to follow suit.  I really worry about him.   Buy the way I am slowly incorporating and cooking things for him that he doesn't know are FTS friendly.   ;) ;)   He has never refused to eat what I put in front of him...LOL  If it isn't good though he won't fall for it a second time.  I try to cook mostly just meat and veggies for him.  I also have a daughter that is in college.  She will be home for the summer soon.  She already loves the one minute muffin though....LOL  I think I can convert her first.   ;D

Hi again, TooSweet! :)

Leading by example is the best (and in many cases the only) way to get others to do what your doing.

As you lose weight, and your husband notices how much better you look, he'll follow you like a kitten to warm milk! ;) ;) ;)

I couldn't toss things out either because we have 6 people in our house. The one time I did, it was some BBQ sauce. I knew we hadn't eaten it in months, so I tossed it. I had no idea my daughter had bought it. Ooops!

I did toss out some daquiri mix. Sad day that was. :D I wonder if they make a SF mix? Off to look, although I really don't need it. Ha!

I think so to Mouseissue!!  ;)  LOL  And Rena if you find a SF daquiri mix please let me know...Love those I'm not sure of the carb count on what you have to put in it though.  You know maybe you could use the SF syrups??  I will have to look into that.

By the way guys my name is Shawn and I am very glad to meet you all!  This forum is a great place and everyone seems so warm, helpful and supportive.  I am so glad I found my way here... ;D

Chayote is a veggie alex and very easy to grow.Doug and I put a vine in and had more than we could eat.You can cook them in the microwave like a baked potato. There are tons of recipes online and you can buy them at the grocery store. They keep a long time in the fridge. ;)
