You can eat others, Jim. Just check the serving size and carb count. I think macadamia nuts are 2 carbs for 1/4 cup.

Hi Jim! :)

I eat:

Almonds (2 net grams per oz.)
Pecans (1 net grams per oz.)
Walnuts (1 net grams per oz.)
Macadamias - Mona Loa brand (2 net grams per oz.)
Sunflower Seeds (1 net grams per oz.)

All measurements are by weight.

And like Rena said, ALWAYS check the nutrition labels for the counts BEFORE you buy or eat them.
Some packagers will add things that can bump up the carb counts. So be careful! ;)

Only word of warning for nuts - Measure them!!  I have found it is Wayyy to easy to munch munch munch - oops all gone!  LOL.

I have started weighing out 1oz and carrying it with me for munchies at work.  Now getting my husband to do the same with his pistachios....

Jim, most mixed nuts are full of cashews which are actually legumes (beans) and are full of sugar. Canned mixed nuts are also loaded with salt which retains fluid. I like to buy walnuts and pecans in the shells. Cracking the nuts in fun, slows you down and avoids all the salt  ;) Serving sizes can get out of hand quickly Jim so listen to the forum members and measure.

I'll pay extra for 100-calorie packs because they're all pre-measured. My husband will buy the cans and before he knows it, has eaten too many. I just wish I could find 100-calorie packs of macadamias. But, I guess that would be stupid to package up what ... 2 or 3 nuts?  :D :D :D

Hi Jen! :)

Your post shows that until we have been at this for a period of time and get the hang of it, we should measure EVERYTHING we eat.
Then after that, never sit down with a container of nuts (or anything else) hoping to not eat too many.
If we get distracted (i.e. watching TV, having conversation, etc.), we will almost always eat much more than we should.

This reminds me of the old Lays potato chip commercial where they told us; "Get your own bag!".
They WANT us to sit down and eat a whole bag of this poison at a time!
Is it any wonder why so many Americans are so FAT? ::)

Might I suggest figuring out the ounces or number of nuts you can eat in a serving and putting them in a snack size baggie.  That way you can control the amount you eat and you can grab them on the go. ;)

Try buying a big bag of raw peanuts. Then you pour them on a cookie sheet and roast them. I bag them up into individual 3 carb servings and they are yummy. If you eat them warm they taste like fresh baked peanut butter cookies. Yummy, Yummy!
