I went to the deli and decided to ask the servers to tell me the carb content of some of the things like roast beef, turkey, American cheese, etc. and I was surprised to find they all had lots of carbs. I thought they’d all be zero carb or at least really low in carbs; any advice for buying deli stuff? Any brands that don’t use tons of sugar? Thanks
Hi timlovesrita!
All meat and poultry and many cheeses (without sauces or other additives) are zero (0) net carbs.
When you buy prepackaged foods (including many in the deli), carbohydrate-laden additives may be used.
That's why it's important to ALWAYS read prepackaged food nutrition labels VERY carefully.
Never make ANY assumptions in this area!
Kudos to you for inquiring before buying!
I urge to continue this practice.
You will find good stuff in the deli.
One last note, be sure you're getting NET carb counts.
That is, those that have fiber and sugar alcohols already subtracted.
