Yeah, and looking at this dog you would not think "puppy".  He is as big as any dog, and would be able to do some serious damage to a person.

Shortly after the Virginia Tech massacre, I got my concealed weapons permit.  I carry a handgun with me everywhere. Usually it is in my right front pocket.  When I run, it goes in a fanny pack for easy access.  Today was the closest I have ever come to using it - had the gun out and pointed at that dog as he was in the middle of the road.  If he had kept coming, I would have had to shoot.  I am really glad he stopped there.

That sure is better than a stick!!   :o  LOL  Glad you didn't have to use it.

Hopefully the owner will take that as a hint to restrain his dog from now on.  I sometimes wonder if some people really just don't care what happens to their pets.  Mine are a part of the family.... I wouldn't let them be in a dangerous situation no more than I would my children.  When they are loose the animal gets to choose the territory that they are protecting.  So the dog was only behaving as a dog.  My belief is that it wouldn't have been the animals fault but his owners, and you would have had every right to protect yourself.     What an exciting run..... keep it interesting right???  LOL  Maybe not so interesting next time.....;)

I agree TooSweet!

Animals rely on their masters to provide their food and safety (including the safety of those around their pets).
If someone can't do both, they are not fit to own an animal!!! >:(
What you do today is what matters!
