Look at this 4.5 Carbs per slice Bread
« on: May 04, 2011, 01:50:18 PM »
Look at the ingredients would it still be safe for everyonce in a while use ? I am asking mostly for Tyler. He is staying pretty close to 30-50 carbs a day but he does like his grilled cheese . So 9 carbs for a grilled cheese is pretty good .

Hi Jo! :)

Based on the label, I wonder about that count because "whole wheat flour" is #1 on the ingredients list.

As we know, ALL wheat flours are very high in net carbs.
"Whole wheat" means that most (if not all) the wheat kernel is used.
So, the bread would also be higher in fiber than "regular" wheat and much higher than white breads.

Since Tyler is allowed a lot more carb than we are, you could give it a try.
If his blood sugar spikes from it, you'll know for sure.

If it does not, please let us know which Sara Lee bread this is! ;)

Sarah Lee 45 Calories and Delightful 100% Whole Wheat with Honey Bread  . I did not buy it cause when I read the ingredients I was a little concerned . But a piece of bread would be nice everyonce in a while . I guess I will get it and use the guinia pig .

I don't believe the carb count, the ingredient list tells the tale  >:(

Wow, I never thought to question if a products nutritional info is wrong. I always assumed if it says x amount of carb/fiber than of course its x amount of carbs/fiber. As is “of course their label is trustworthy”. But after watching the Food Inc. movie, I should know better. Hmmmm, well that is a can of worms that unfortunately had to be opened. I need a carb-o-meter. Put any food into it, and it tell you it’s REAL carb/fiber content. Does it exist? “If not, anyone want to invent this with me? 

Hi F2S-Awesome! :)

The FDA is very particular about the ingredients list on nutrition labels.
They insist it must be accurate in terms of ingredient content listed in order of amount.
But, they are not so fussy for the rest of the labels.
That's why it's VERY important to read both the ingredient content list AND carb counts.

When I read a label, I first look at the top three ingredients listed.
If any one of them is corn, wheat, sugar, or any other high carb source, I put the item back on the shelf! ;)
