Chayote Squash
« on: May 11, 2011, 08:51:19 AM »
Does anyone know the nutritional value of this squash?
Can someone explain why some of us repel so long when the answer is right in front of us? Oh well, at least we finally get it!

Hi sistabec! :)

Since we don't have it around here, I've never looked it up.

After some digging, I found this.
http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate/nutrition-calories/food/generic/chayote-squash/
Looks like about 3 net grams per half cup.

It seems that livestrong.com's "verified" info is fairly accurate.
What you do today is what matters!

TY sooo much! I tried it last night for the 1st time after reading in FTS that it was a replacement for a baked potato. IT REALLY WAS! I was shocked. Such an odd looking veggie who would have ever thunk it? ;D

There is a recipe on here that one of the gals used chayote and made a baked apple dish. ;)

When I've described it to people, I tell them to look for the squash that looks like a green BUTT!

I am getting delicious acorn squash from my local food coop. I cut it in half, clean it out, micro-wave, and sometimes eat it all - skin included. Couldn't be simpler. My only question is: Does anyone know the nutritional value of the skin? Should I just use the values in the Spark food tracker, and count the skin, along with the insides? Thanks.

The nutritional value as listed icludes the skin.I love acorn squash but its a little high in carbs so I measure it out.I just have a smaller serving and I eat the skin too! ;)
