Creamy hot or cold Cocoa!
« on: May 04, 2010, 06:52:25 PM »
My FIRST CREATION! My taste Buds drove me to my recipe!!!

I really missed my skim milk and hot cocoa so much that yesterday I was at the grocery store trying to find a substitute for my special need! This recipe is very creamy, and a 1/2 cup satisfies me. I will list the nutritional info off of the cartons, and if anyone knows different please let me know! I wanted to be able to find a source for Vitamin D and Calcium, and in moderation because of the Almond Milk Carbs, I will use this product. I also do not care for Soy Milk.
I will list the products and then how I mixed them, and of course you will change them to meet your taste needs. :)
**Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Almond Milk Original Half Gallon

I haven't found that one yet, but will keep looking, mine was 60 calories! But I haven't been watching calories or fat...just carbs/sugar.

Thank you, I am so accustomed to think cream is bad for cholesterol. The Blue Diamond seemed to taste so good, and have lots of good vitamins, for I am worried I won't get enough Calcium, and Vitamin D?

Sources of Calcium in Food
By: Julian Huang, MD
Any dietary source of calcium will count toward the child’s daily intake, but low-fat milk is clearly the most efficient and readily available. Lactose-free milk, soy and rice drinks have recently become more easily obtainable and less expensive.
In addition to milk, there are a variety of foods that contain calcium and can help children get sufficient levels of calcium in their daily diet. Some examples include:

Dairy foods: Milk, yogurt, cheese
Leafy green vegetables: Broccoli, kale, spinach
Beans and peas: Tofu, peanuts, peas, black beans, baked beans
Fish: Salmon, sardines
Miscellaneous: Sesame seeds, almonds,

Replace the sweetened almond milk with unsweetened (1 net carb per cup) and replace the coco with Hershey's Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup (1 net carb per two tablespoons) and you've got it made  ;D

Doug - The Almond Milk is PLAIN, so I thought that meant unsweetened. I can't seem to find a carton that says unsweetened but will keep looking for I love the stuff, and cream is just too thick for me. I have been looking for the sugar free ketchup and other products, and have not found the Hersey's syrup sugar free yet either? I just need to keep looking through my stores...Fargo, ND is not very resourceful for these products...I need to open my own store, and wish I could cook better to open up a sugar free/ almost free...restaurant!

Blue Diamond sells an unsweetened chocolate almond milk that is pretty amazing. All you have to do is add some sweetener to it and heat it up and you have hot cocoa (I'm all about easy!).
