I have been seeing this new "flavor" stuff for your water. I was reading the label, or so I thought I was, where it said, no carbs, no calories, etc...Figured I'd give it a shot. WRONG!! After chugging 2 water bottles of it, my brain(haha, I know)finally caught up! My brain said, hey waite, this stuff tastes sweet! But they label "said" no carbs, calories, etc...It can't be bad for you, right? So, much to my dissapointment, in the food industry AGAIN, it had; sucralose & acesulfame! So I did a little digging! and it's a sugar subtitute! Soooo, guess I bought it for nothing! It was listed in the Ingredients, not the nutrition facts! Boy, they sure are sneaky! Thank you Doug and Umpa, for opening my eyes to labels!!!

Hi Stephanie! :)

The easiest way to think about nutrition labels is:

1) Carb counts are just "clues" which may or may not be what you think.
2) Ingredients tell the truth.

You can't fool our bodies.
After detox, if we give them too many of the wrong carbs, they let us know right away!

Like the old saying goes, live and learn! ;)
What you do today is what matters!

Hi Stephanie

Can you tell us what this stuff was??  I may have bought the same thing   :-\  I'm always looking for new things to have other than just water all the time.  Don't get me wrong.... I love my water but sometimes it is nice to have some flavor ;) The stuff I bought was at Walmart in little bottles of liquid.  It's called MiO Liquid.  I guess I'm not up on all the sweeteners and substatutes yet...LOL

I'd like to know what it was too Stephanie.  I have been buying the "Sugar Free Wyler's Light Singles to Go", and I love it.  Now I am re-checking the ingredients as well.  They are:  citric acid, potassium citrate, maltodextrin, aspartame, lemon juice solids, natural flavor, salt, magnesium oxide, ascorbic acid, acesulfame potassium, tricalcium phosphate, artificial color.
The Nutrition facts show: calories 5, sodium 15mg, total carbs 0, sugars 0, protein 0.
The directions say to pour one packet into 16.9 oz bottle of water, but I use one for 32 oz so the flavor isn't so strong.
Tony, do you think this one is ok?

Acesulfame potassium is an artificial sweetener made from a chemical compound, it's mixed with Sucralose (splenda) to mask the bitter after taste it has.  Aspartame is also a chemical based artificial sweetener. Maltodextrin is derived from corn and is used to bulk up the chemical powders.

These sweeteners all have very little effect on blood sugar therefor most people don't have an insulin response. There are some hidden carbs in Splenda (24 per cup) so I don't use it. I limit my Aspartame intake to a very very minimum because I get headaches from it. I'll have maybe one can of diet soda every few days. I enjoy root beer and no-one sweeteners it with anything other than Aspartame in the sugar free brands. Many times I'll use that one can throughout the day to splash into a glass of water to flavor it. One can can sweeten and flavor 10 glasses of water.

I understand the need for a bit of flavor in water. Here's another thing I do quite often;

a little squeeze of fresh lemon or lime and a bit of Stevia in a big glass of water, that's all it takes.  ;)

Hey guys. The name bran was Mio. It's a new thing to flavored water. It's kinda like Crystal Light.

So now I'm wondering if I should count each serving as 1g carb since it is made with sucralose (splenda) and acesulfame potassium.  What does everyone think??

Hi TooSweet! :)

I would!

You can't go wrong overestimating the amount of net carbs you're eating.
If you underestimate, stall outs and/or weight gain would most likely be in your future!
