Flax Seed question

I used to make my own bread. I have a Zojirushi bread machine as well as a whisper mill that grinds the grain. I "used" to buy my grain by the 5 gallon buckets with hydrogen seal lids that keep the bugs out and the grain fresh until I get ready to mill it. I always used a little flax seed in my breads as well for the extra fiber. I still have have an almost full 5 gallon container of flax seed. What would be the difference in my grinding it into a flour consistency and using it in my FTS receipes verses buying flax seed meal in a tiny little bag from the grocery and paying a premium for it?  :-\ Isn't it the exact same thing? ??? If so, those of you who like to use flax seed a lot for pancakes and etc....you might be better off to buy it like I do. ;D Check and compare at www.breadbeckers.com  You will also need to make a one time purchase of about $10 (?) for a hydrogen seal lid. I do miss making my own homemade delicious bread  :P More importantly now I've got to lose about 50lbs!  :)

Hi gpod97 thanks for the info.  you are surely right.... there isn't any difference.  I often grind my own flax and almond meals.  I wonder though if you are buying it in such a large amount will it turn rancid? :P I try and keep mine in the fridge or freezer because I have been afraid of that.     I love to buy things in bulk though  :D

I keep my flours in the fridge too.  With just me being the only one in the family eating this way, iit takes me a while to use up one of the little 1 lb bags.

I do miss making my own homemade delicious bread  :P
Gpod97 have you tried making any of the breads in the FTS Bakery Book?  I mix everything up in my bread machine on the dough cycle and then put it in a bread pan and bake it in the oven.  Give it a try if you haven't already.

gpod the 50 pounds probably came from the bread. :D Yes you can mill your own flours. ;)

Toosweet, the flaxseed and grains don't go rancid because of the hydrogen seal. It locks in freshness and keeps out the bugs. I think it keeps something like 6 years? You can go to www.breadbeckers.com to get the contact info. Call them and ask them about the seals if you are interested.

poopzumom1, Umpa told me I can get the bakery book after 50 posts.  ;) I won't have time until next month to do any baking.  :( I'm in the process of finishing up my associates degree at our local college. Can't wait to have my life back again!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Lowcarbrocks you can buy The Fat to Skinny Bakery at www.fattoskinny.com as well as the other books.We are working on 2 more cookbooks right now.There are also videos on youtube. ;)
