Hey Umpa you had mentioned that you made your own toppings..... I was wondering if you might share how you make yours.  Home made always tastes so much better, is probably cheaper and then you don't have to wonder what is in them.  Thanks  :)

I've been using Lipton On-The-Go mixes and blending them with a huge tumbler of crushed ice. I usually add a packet of Truvia to it. It's kind of like a slush/Italian ice thing. I use so much ice though that I have to eat it with a spoon.  :D

Strawberry Topping(can use any berry)
1/2 cup strawberries
2 tablespoons xylitol
3/4 cup water
Clean and slice strawberries.Put them in saucepan over medium heat .Cook down until thick and water is evaporated.
This can also be used as a jam.

Elderberry Syrup (great h1n1 preventative)
    3/4 cup dried elderberries or 1 1/2 fresh (or any berry)
    3 cups water
    1 cup  sugarfree honey

1. Heat the berries and water to a boil, then reduce to simmer for 30 minuets.

2. Mash the berries, strain, and add 1 cup of  sugarfree honey.

3. Bottle and store, refrigerated. Will last for 2-3 months.
This is great taken by itself or in seltzer water,pancakes,on fresh fruit,in frostings,anyplace you use syrup.

Simple syrups
are no more than water and xylitol cooked down and flavor added to them.
2 cups of water
1/2 cup xylitol
Cook down until thick over medium heat .Add flavoring(peppermint,lemon ,banana,etc.)

The snowcone flavorings are great for snowcones and flavoring cream cheese frosting.The flavors are wild! Banana,watermelon,cherry,grape,etc.
I also use them in cake mix to flavor cake batter .
When you use them though cut way back on your xylitol because they are wicked sweet!You can use them instead of extracts.

I have been missing jelly and cream cheese-yay!  Sounds so easy.  I am going to go home and make some tonight because I just bought some strawberries.  I am going to have it on GG crispbreads tomorrow am! 8)

I prefer to make my own stuff because i know exactly what I am getting.I do love the 50-Fifty Jams though. :)

I am allergic to the artificial sweeteners, am using xylitol at present.  I would love to make my own jello but can't figure out how to flavour  it to my taste....such as raspberry, cherry, etc.  I don't really want to use Koolaid as I am not sure of the chemicals init.  Where can I buy concentrated natural flavours?  Or can you suggest another way.  I am gluten free and diabetic.

Another question, tho it isn't under this topic heading.  In your spinach bread, can I use fresh spinach ....maybe wilted?  Thanks for any help.   Margot

Welcome Margot I am Umpa,Dougs wife if I can help you please ask ;) Fresh spinach can be used just squeeze it out in a towel to get the water out of it.You need to cook it past wilt stage to get as much water out as possible.i also do not use artificial sweeteners,I don't think they are healthy. I use stevia,xylitol, and we just came up with FTS  Zero sweetener.Some people have tummy issues with xylitol and stevia with Zero there is none of that.You can use unflavored gelatin(KNOX) and Emulsions.I love emulsions.I buy them at Ross for $2.99 or you can buy them online for $5.99.A little goes a long way.I also like the flavorings done by Frontier Herb company.I am studying to be a herbalist.My two favorite herb companies are mountain rose and frontier.  ;)
