My brother n law and his "fruit smoothies!"
« on: July 29, 2011, 10:53:46 AM »
My brother n law called today, talking about we should try these "fruit smoothies" he's makeing. He named off the fruits he put in them.  I can't believe after all these years, he still doesn't realize the stuff my husband can't eat because of diabeties! Fruits have sugar in them! He was like oh really? He was like y'all should try them. I said we probably can't because of the program we're on! He was like "Oh"! I swear, it still amazes me about how blind people are about "eating healthy!" But it amazes me even more, how much "will power" I have to say no to something that I know I can't eat! Still going! Went from 240 now at 207!! Yippie!!

Hi Stephanie! :)

Doug talks about how we can have certain fruits (i.e. berries) on page 101 of his book.
But like all foods that have net carbs, we must measure amounts.

I don't recall any mention on this forum of blood sugar spikes from those berries.
I love fresh berries on my low carb ice cream topped with whipped cream and some crushed pecans or walnuts... YUMMY!!! ;D

Congrats on your weight loss!!! :) :) :)
What you do today is what matters!

Some people just don't get it when it comes to diabetes.

Regarding the fruit, I was surprised how much fruit and veggies my friends on Weight Watchers ate. One of them has lost 50 pounds and is keeping it off eating that way, so I guess it just depends on the individuals.

Next time he suggests his smoothies, tell him you make some great sugar-free ones using the FTS plan. I like using a cup of water (sometimes a half cup of almond milk and half cup water) with a Lipton Tea On-The-Go pack. Put it in the blender and fill it with crushed ice and blend. That makes an awesome smoothie with 0 carbs. Berries would be good, too.
