Just read this book
« on: August 24, 2011, 08:06:24 AM »
Hello! I've tried to be a low carber for a few years (i have my moments of weakness) and I just came across this book and it was very enjoyable to read.  My question is how does a diet like this differ from like Atkins (besides all the phases) South Beach or the Paleo diet, I think I start to get a little overwhelmed with all the diet books on the shelves now so just curious.

Welcome to the forum! I am Umpa,Dougs wife.If I can help you please ask. This lifestyle plan works because we break the cycle. We don't remove foods we replace them. That way there are no foods to add back in after you have lost the weight so you don't gain the weight back.Cycle broken. I have a column on the homepage called ask umpa where I can convert your favorite foods to fat to skinny friendly. :)

Replacements, Replacements, Replacements  8)  All the "diets" you mentioned are just that....diets. FTS is a lifestyle change. By replacing literally all high carb foods with low carb delicious replacements a person is able to eat the FTS way for a lifetime without any cravings for the old foods. I also think for many the design of the book...especially the sugar spoons make the benefits of eating low carb very easy to understand.  ;)

Finally, you get your own private Umpa Loompa with FAT TO SKINNY  ::) ::)

Welcome to FTS Xtremesteph!  I ditto what Mouseissue posted.  I also want to add that once you have stopped eating all those carbs your "cravings" will also stop.  You will have more energy and not be hungry.  I used to want to sleep all day, eat from boredom and binge eat.  Since I have been introduced to FTS my cravings are all but gone.  I am up before 5 AM everyday and go all day long.  I just now ate lunch; chicken salad on romaine hearts......mmmmmmm good.

Good luck on your journey.  You will enjoy folks on this forum, recipes and Doug and Umpa.
Look out Hawaii, I'm on my way!!

Welcome Extremesteph,

I can tell you from personal experience that if you dont "change" completely, the cravings will remain and you will never be free of the carb addiction.  When I first started I made the statement of simple & complex carbs and their differences.. Well experience has shown me that there is no simple or complex.
Its low and high carbs...

When I finally commited myself, my AIC was 8.4 which is high and in July it was 5.9... There are so many replacements out there..

BTW I did Atkins and you will lose at the beginning, but when I started introducing the increments in carb grams, my weight started going up too.. So it really is a lifestyle and an awesome one at that..
Alex

I just want to reiterate that you have to go all in with FTS. After the first two weeks the cravings for carbs go completely away. I find that I forget to eat from time to time because food is just not a big deal anymore. Trust me, food has ALWAYS been a huge deal to me but on FTS it's just fun fuel and not an addiction.

Welcome to the forum Steph!  As for the "replacements"....there's some amazing recipes here!  I seriously think that is the key to my success.  I mean... knowing I can have cheesecake and still lose weight still just tickles me!!    I do agree with Sherripie & Tony.....it's all or nothing.   Starting the FTS lifestyle has been one of the best decisions of my life.  Welcome to the family!  ;D
