Just to fill you in
« on: August 25, 2011, 04:21:37 PM »
Well, I got my lab results back. and I have an underactive thyroid. They are upping the dosage from 50mg. to 75mgs! I have noticed the past couple two or three days, I've been extremely tired, all day! No matter how much coffee  ;D I drink, I'm still tired! Are there any foods (fat to skinny friendly, of course)that can help me out? Thanks!

Hi Steph, did your lack of energy start before or after upping the dosage?

Well Steph, that eliminates the meds as the cause....did the doc share with you some common side effects of hypothyroidism (under active thyroid)? Here they are;

Physical symptoms:

    * Weight gain (due to fluid retention)
    * Dry skin
    * Yellow skin
    * Hair loss, including the eyebrows
    * Swollen face, hands, legs, ankles or feet
    * Feeling cold
    * Aches and pains in muscles or joints
    * Hoarse or raspy voice
    * Constipation
    * Heavy menstrual bleeding or irregular periods
    * Fatigue
    * Slower thinking
    * Trouble remembering things
    * Slower speech or movement
    * Feeling down or depressed

Steph, do you have any of these other symptoms? If not you may want a second opinion..... Fatigue can be brought on by many things including the simplest of all....not getting a good nights sleep. Are you sleeping well? getting a full 8 hours? Look for the simple answers first.

I always used to hope I had low thyroid as an excuse for the weight gain!!  :P   At least now I know - it was the food I was stuffing in my face  :o

I've had hypothyrodism for years and have been on meds for it for just as long. In all honesty, I never felt any different before or after the meds, even though they suggested I might. I just take them everyday hoping they're doing something. weight loss doesn't seem to affect it and I just had mine checked and it was the same as before I lost the weight.

Hi Rena! How the home schooling going? :)

We're not starting until next Tuesday, so I've been busy working in our classroom and trying to get caught up on my kid's yearbooks. I think our local schools start this Wednesday, but I'm holding off until the day after Labor Day. Pretty soon we'll be back in the swing of things. Thanks for asking!
