Flaxseed flour
« on: May 17, 2010, 07:15:08 PM »
Hi.  I have a question.  You mentioned in another post flaxseed flour.  I'm hoping to find it tomorrow while I'm running for the day.  Can flaxseed flour be subsituted for the regular flour I used to use?  Same equal parts?  I can't use soy.

I love flaxseed its like a superfood! Its great for your heart and your body. They sell it at the local grocery stores for about $3.50-$4 a bag.I make a foccasia with just flaxseed and i like it for grilled cheese , but I think for general baking you would be happier if you cut it with almond or hazelnut.almond for breads and hazelnut for muffins. You can also cut all three of those with soy protien powder, also at the grocery store.

Walmart sells it, too. Very affordable...much more so than the almond flour/meal.

Does hazelnut flour taste like hazelnut?  I've only tried it in the flavor coffee and I really didn't care for it.

There are different kinds. I have two kinds. One is just little seeds that you can add to your food like little itty bitty sunflower seeds. The milled flax seeds are more powdery.

Hazelnut is sweet. There are different kinds of flaxseed, and they are inexpensive.

The protien powder is sold for shakes,I think the most popular brand is Gensoy(also the most expensive). You should be able to find it for about $3.75 a cannister at walmart, grocery store,or biglots. I use it in  alot of my recipes to lighten things up. Check the label when you buy, it should be zero carbs.

Beebs I'm in po dunk alaska and my stores carry the bobs red mill. it's usually not in the isle with your regular flours.
and all of the bobs red mill comes in bags that you can see through if that makes since.

one stores here have them in the oriental section one in the cereal section and the other in the baking section.

Hope this helps

I'd love for you to be able to find it.

What brand do you use umpa?( protein powder)  I found the flaxseed I used to make the bread sticks they looked like big poop logs. They tasted much worse.
