So I am curious
« on: January 12, 2012, 01:24:13 PM »
what does everyone do for a living?  I dont know why I just became curious all of a sudden..

I am a Florida State Licensed Insurance agent. I have worked in the insurance industry for over 15 yrs in the personal lines. Now I work in the commercial end of with the lenders for the last 2 yrs and I must admit, I love it.. Though I have to meet deadlines as well, its not as stressful...

Hi Alex! :)

I'm currently retired.

My last work stint was an IT (computer) professional for just under 20 years.
Before that, I owned a couple of businesses.
Before that, I worked the shipyards in Seattle.
Before that, I was a security guard while attending college in SOCal.

My wife was licensed to sell insurance some years before we met.
What you do today is what matters!

I homeschool my kids. My girls have both graduated, so I'm just working with the boys now.

I also write children's books -- picture books and middle grade.

I've worked a variety of "jobs" prior to getting married and having kids, though. I worked in hospitals in housekeeping and laundry, worked in a deli, worked as a cashier, was a full-charge bookkeeper for a short time (hated it), and also worked as a vet assistant. Of all my jobs, I loved working with the animals the most. That was such a fun job. I miss it.

I used to be a CPA but now I'm just the A part.  I work in the financial reporting department of an oil and gas exploration company.

I also have a husband, 5 daughters, 2 sons-in-law and three granddaughters.

I work part-time as a phlebotomist in a hospital while I'm in school full-time to become an echocardiographer (cardiac ultrasound tech).  I'll be graduating in May...YAY!!!  ;D

In my past life, I worked as a biological science tech gathering research data on different birds of prey during their nesting season.  I worked with snail kites in the everglades, with great grey owls in Idaho and spotted owls in Oregon and Northern California.  I also did some wildland firefighting with the US Forest Service primarily in S. Carolina, where I operated a D5 CAT bulldozer putting in firelines for prescribed burns and plowing lines around wildfires.  I also had to drive a semi to transport the bulldozer around.

Although chasing birds was fun and operating a bulldozer was interesting, I'm grateful to have a job where I'm now working with people and I can make a difference. I spent 11 years on the road for work, so it's also nice to be surrounded by family here in Denver.

I was a travel agent for years, then went into the hotel industry in Niagara Falls, then a short stint as a receptionist at a lawyer's office.  Now I am working seasonally at a beach resort on Lake Erie.  Travel & tourism is what I enjoy, but being off for the winter this year and being able to travel myself is what I like better, LOL!!

What fun to see what everyone does.  :)  I was a painter in a nuclear power plant..... fancy name Industrial Nuclear Coatings Specialist....LOL  That is until my arthritis forced me to stay home.  Before that kinda a jack of all trades......My favorite job though is just being Mom and now soon to be Grams  ;) ;)
