Diabetic question
« on: February 05, 2012, 12:04:47 PM »
I know I read somewhere that the difference in sweeteners could spike your blood sugar.  My husband is a Type 2 diabetic how can he find out which sweetener spikes his blood surgar?  Is there some kind of test procedure he can do for himself?

That is a pretty simple process Barb.  If your husband tests his blood sugar already.  Just have him test it before ingesting anything (you don't want to wonder what food caused it)  then test it at intervals after.  That will show you if he is having any spikes from them and how long it takes to come down.    I test before, then at 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour and again in two.  I probably do it with over kill but I like to know how my body is dealing with it...LOL

Hey Barb Tyler my son is a Type 1 and I have not seen any sweetners that cause a spike in his sugar . He has just about all of them since he was diagnosed . But still have your hubby check like toosweet said . Sugar alcohols seem to be the problem for my son  ;D
