Breast Cancer Recurrence
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:02:19 AM »
Breast cancer survivors who consume carbohydrate rich foods-particularly starches-increase  their risk of recurrence, according to a study of 2650 women who were followed for 7 years.Researchers at the University of  California,San Diego were primarily looking at carbohydrate intake when they found the detrimental starch link. The results found its not just overall carbohydrate but particularly starch,"says researcher Jennifer Emond" ."Women  who increased their starch were at a much higher risk of recurrence."

That is really interesting because starch (basically complex carbohydrate) breaks down into sugar but they didn't find a sugar relationship.

Just add this to the list of proof that we FTSers are on the right track.

PS  I was a biologist before I became an accountant.  The scientific stuff fascinates me.

Well since they use sugar to make the cancer act up so they can find it easier that totally makes sense. I wish they would report about this more so the public really knows how bad sugar is for us. Thanks Umpa for the post.

Interesting info here; I avoided having my 3rd mammo for 7 years because my first 2 resulted in required surgery for biosopy (sp?).  This time (started FTS in July 2011) it was clear...no sugar and low carb diet may have given me a "clear" mammogram!!!!
Look out Hawaii, I'm on my way!!

Hi Sherri! :)

We know that all those cancer research scientists have understood the linkage between sugar and cancer for a very long time.
Otherwise, why would they use sugar to stimulate cancer growth?

This is a good point to remember to tell our doctors when any of them tell us that low carb eating is not necessarily the best thing for us.

What's bad for cancer is good for us! :)
What you do today is what matters!

Thanks for posting this Umpa.  I am actually a major nerd and did quite a bit of research on this as I was starting the program.  Here is an article that you may also find interesting (although it is done in mice)...

http://cancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/71/13/4484.full

It shows that not only does a lower carb/higher protein diet slow tumor growth and help prevent new cancers from starting, it also increases the effectiveness of cancer therapeutic agents in reducing tumor growth.

6 1/2 year survivor here!  Definitely avoid sugar for that reason, as well as soy and flax products which may contribute to the estrogenic affect (for the type I had.)
