Pretty Ticked Off!
« on: March 07, 2012, 09:18:20 PM »
Since my youngest child started a new school, here in the sunshine state, and he's still a diabetic, the school nurse, sent home a menu of the "choices" the kids have. I kid you not, the lowest amount of carbs on the menu was 35! Even with salads! The carb amounts even went up to 5o! No wonder why school age children are diabetic! They don't even realize they're slowly killing the next generation! I'm going to have to make a copy of the menu and post it on here! It's just totally rediculous! Luckily, he has para professionals, because he is ese, and I told the school nurse, that he can have the stuff in the sandwhich, just not the bread! and she was suprisingly willing to work with us on that! I just can't believe how many carbs are on our kids lunch menus! Doug, you need to start hitting the school cafeterias!! Pronto! ;D

Maybe Doug could do something like Jamie Oliver does with his food revolution?

Me, too, Tony. I won't add any flaming comments. It makes me boil. If I had kids, they'd be home schooled. Kudos to those who are able to do it and do.

Hey guys. Well Umpa, at least y'all tried! Michelle Obama dropped the ball at the gate. Guess she figured it wasn't worth it! Thanks for trying anyways!

Schools are a tough nut to crack....I've offered thousands of free copies to school districts and I'm always refused. Academics have a tough time accepting ANY information that comes to them from a non-academic. It's there way or the highway  >:( >:(

You're right Doug. Because if they cut out all the bread, the bread "people"  ;D would slowly go out of business! Well, I'm glad you at least tried! I told them, he could have the stuff in the sandwhich, just not the bread! So far, they've been doing it!

Doug, I will try to speak with my superintendent one on one. Where do you see the books going? To teachers, libraries, parent resource rooms, school nurses?

That's WONDERFUL, Stephanie!!! :) :) :) :) :)

When my kids were growing up back in the 80s and early 90s, it seemed the schools were much more receptive to helping parents with their children's needs.

Sadly with the more recent "nanny state, we know better than you" mentality, many are much less receptive.
It's great you have one that still listens. :) :) :)

Doug, if you want to send me some yellow books, I can use the conversions from sugar grams to carbs and the formula for figuring net carbs as some math lessons. They can use the books as a resource and even take one home possibly. We can watch a video of you showing the huge wheelbarrow of sugar!
