Hi Family!
« on: April 20, 2012, 11:40:01 AM »
I know I have not been around too often lately, My back and leg were so bad, that I really took a break from life and had to deal with the problem.  As I had said before, Prednisone blew me up like a blow fish and made me gain 6 pounds!  I am all better now, lots of PT and back to the gym.  So what's my complaint?  I started taking vitamins and a new Thyroid (ENERGY) pill.  Well guess what.... I'm 10 pounds heavier!  Have been doing my FTS program all along, figured the Prednisone weight would fall away soon enough, and then BAM I'm even heavier.

So I looked on line this morning, and found that some people really do gain weight on vitamins.  So.... I'm going to stop taking them and see what happens.  I have to admit, I really didn't have any more energy than before, and I didn't feel any different.  I know that Sherri had lost weight on her Centrum, but go figure.... I gain!

Oh by the way... Joey is going to the PROM tonight!  You can not imagine how proud I am of him:)

Well have a great Friday, and let me know if I'm the only one with the weight gain while trying to do the right thing.

Mary

Welcome back!  Between prednisone, pain and a thyroid pill for energy (horrors!) you deserve to give yourself a break and your body a chance to settle into all the changes you are making.  Look for other signs that the FTS lifestyle is working for you.  How is your energy level?  How loose or long are your pants?  You know the drill.

Come back to visit often.  You already know this is a very supportive group of fellow FTSers.  We love having lots of friends to play with.

Hi Mary! :)

It's great to have you back!

Although a few people report weight gain using vitamins, many have reported gain using Prednisone.

Here's something I found on another site;

"Increased appetite and weight gain are two of the common side effects associated with prednisone use -- especially long-term or high-dose prednisone. While the amount of weight may vary, most patients taking prednisone will experience some weight gain.

Prednisone can cause a redistribution of body fat to the face, back of the neck, and abdomen. The weight gain and redistribution is undesirable, to say the least. Chronic use of oral corticosteroids or frequent IM injections can also increase adipose tissue (type of connective tissue that contains stored cellular fat).
"

Here's an interesting article about the side effects of Prednisone and what you can do;
http://www.prednisonesideeffects.org/prednisone-weight-gain-%E2%80%93-how-to-handle-it/

You should talk to your doctor about the gain and what you should do about it.
What you do today is what matters!

Hey Mary - I have found that the days I drink 75 to 100 ounces of water, the weight goes down, but the days I don't drink at least 75 oz, there is no difference or a gain. It would be an easy fix if you think water might be an issue.

Water is a huge issue,drink as much as you can.Just visualize it washing the fat out of your body and hydrating  that skin to tighten it back up! ;)

Yes Mary, sometimes a medical issue gives us a setback, but we just have to get back on plan, get focused back on target and keep moving forward.....and i agree sometimes that means figuring out what we have to do to make it work with a setback like a medication weight gain etc.

and the water....that's so essential.....we just have to always be drinking that water.

Hang in there Mary!  We're with you....!
