hi its millie

 how many carbs for the biscuits?

Hi Millie! :)

It can be 0 depending on your choice of ingredient brands (like the almond milk).
I buy Silk brand which is 0.

And if you shred your cheddar from a block of cheese, that should be zero, too!
All other ingredients should have zero net carbs.

You can check at the USDA's website here;

I made these this morning for the first time!! They were good with sausage & egg-white scrambled eggs!!

My question: mine didn't rise at all, could my baking powder be old? Are they supposed to rise?

Tony, did you freeze any and do they thaw and microwave or toaster oven re-heat well!?!

I think I mashed them down too thin, and will make them thicker next time! They tasted good though!!!  :D

Hi Momma! :)

Yes... Old baking powder can prevent rising.

I did not like them as well frozen and nuked or reheated.
It did something weird to the flavor. :P

They don't rise like traditional biscuits mommaB but they are a great substitute. ;)

The recipe calls for cream of tartar.  It is the only ingredient I don't have in the house.  What is it and what is it used for?  Just trying to learn my way around the kitchen.  Thanks.

Here is a link to a better answer than I can give for you  ;)  Haha   http://frugalliving.about.com/od/makeyourowningredients/qt/Cream-Of-Tartar-Substitute.htm    I'm guessing it is in there to give the baking powder a little extra lift.  Since baking powder is basically baking soda and cream of tartar mixed together I would drop the salt in the ingredients and increase the baking powder a bit, or you can try leaving the cream of tartar out all together.  I think the worst that could happen is a slightly flatter biscuit.  Other wise you can find it in with the jars of spices in any local grocery.   ;D
