Keto-sticks question
« on: July 11, 2012, 03:55:44 PM »
Is there anyone here with information on
Keto sticks? I have been using them for about
5 days and I am staying inbetween  small and moderate
Should I be in the moderate stage if I am burning
Stored Fat? Just wondering because of my 2lb gain this week
If it is helpful to realize Im still having too many carbs?

Well that depends... the color Keto stick users hope for is purple, the down side of purple however usually means those people aren't drinking enough water. Keto sticks are a "tool" to determine if your body is in Ketosis. Simply spoken Ketones are the "ash" of burned fat cells and end up in the urine...this is what the Keto sticks activate their colors upon. But so many factors come into play when testing including the number of hours that you ate last, how much water you are drinking, what your last food make up was etc... For me Keto sticks are a waste of money and just one more way for the diet industry to make a profit on our "need to know".

If you wish to continue using them as a guide so be it but making true food decisions on there results will be tricky. Do yourself a favor and keep it simple. If you're gaining weight cut back on carbs.

Hi Deb! :)

The purpose of Ketostix is to detect ketoacidosis in diabetics.

Ketoacidosis is a serious medical condition that requires treatment.
It is NOT related to healthy weight loss!

Like Doug says, the use of Ketostix to "monitor" fat burning can be misleading and a waste of time & money... So save your $$$!

Use that money you'll save to buy low carb ingredients for some of the wonderful recipes we have here.
That would be a good use of your hard earned dollars! ;)
What you do today is what matters!

It is a good thing to realize that FTS eating will result in a high(er) level of ketones.  I had that come back in a test when I was hospitalized for something unrelated.  The doctor was in the room with a serious look on her face until I told her I eat a low carb diet.  Then she was fine with it.  If I hadn't known to tell her that, they'd been looking for diabetes.  It saved me some hassles and a few blood draws.

I've been using ketostix since i "restarted" the lifestyle. I also stay in the moderate range. I use it to see how my body reacts to certain foods. For example, I've noticed that eating a lot of foods with sugar alcohols in them will drastically decrease the results. I also noticed that lack of water will impact the results in the same way.
