Sugar Alcohols - how many is too many?
« on: August 07, 2012, 08:36:17 PM »
How many sugar alcohols is too many?  I know that they can stall your progress, but any idea on how many.  I ask because of my slow progress.  I only have about 8gs (2 small squares) of SF chocolate or 1 SF Atkins Peanut Butter Cup daily with a coffee as a snack/treat.  I know you will probably suggest I give these up to see how it goes, but really that would 'hurt'.  These are the only things I have (I do have some SF wafers but they not daily). I don't eat SF lollies, but I do enjoy the chocolate.

Hi Morgan! :)

What you ask for has no easy, or hard and fast answers.

Too many sugar alcohols is enough to slow or stop one's weight loss progress.
The number will be different for different folks.

Some people can eat quite a bit , without ill effect (other than, perhaps intestinal issues).
Other people may only eat a few before progress is slowed or even stopped.

In Doug's book, he discusses them at some length.
If you are not satisfied with your rate of weight loss, these should be the first to be removed.
And, they should only be eaten OCCASIONALLY as a treat... But not daily.

Now I understand that this may 'hurt'.
But as a former "sweets junkie", I can tell you that the desire for them can be tamed if you walk away from them from time to time.
You must prove to yourself that you are master over them. Not the reverse.

I would suggest that you stop eating them for maybe a week or two to see what happens.
If you progress speeds up, you can try to SLOWLY add them back in occasionally until your progress is effected.

BTW, a lot of folks have reported that they've had negative experiences with Adkins products.

You can do this, Morgan.
When I did, I first thought that it would be very painful.
But after a few weeks, I did not hear them "calling my name" anymore.

Hey Morgan with Tyler being a type 1 diabetic bith atkins and RS candies well any SF make his Blood sugar rise but sometimes you just to to have some LOL . we have to count any sugar A over 6 . So that kinda slows down the eating of them well the fun of eating them .

Because like 2 RS candies would be like 6 carbs depending on the ones you eat sometimes they are worth 6 carbs sometimes not .
Oh SF resses they or very good but they raise his sugar the most . The Atkins bar that looks  lke a payday bar does not raise his too much . When we check his ,I check mine and it almost always raises mine also maybe not as high as his but does raise it

Just a little info you may find helpful although disappointing ;)

Hi Morgan! :)

No, I'm not offended and I completely understand how you feel.

FTS is about changing how we used to eat for our better health.
Some of those "changes" can be a bit uncomfortable, at first.
But any undesirable habit can be changed or replaced with a better alternative.
And science has shown that a new habit can be established after 21 days.

Like I said, I was a "sweets junkie".
If I did not have a sweet dessert after dinner, I would feel VERY deprived.
I loved to eat sugary cakes, pies, candies, etc..
I decided that in order to be successful at FTS, I had to change that... So like most others here, I did.
I made up my mind that I could not have it both ways and to learn to live with that truth.

If I did it, you can too, Morgan!
It's not really as hard as you may imagine.
The first couple of days are the toughest. But it gets much easier with each passing day.

We're with you every step of the way! :) :) :)
