Sugar Free Relish - Kroger Brand
« on: August 13, 2012, 08:29:06 PM »
During our travels we stopped at a Kroger grocery in my quest to find Mt. Olive SF relish.  We happened onto Kroger brand SF relish.  I was shocked and confused that they claim that it is 0 carb.  I have gone to their website so I could link the label but alas I can't find it, nor can I tear the label off the jar so I could scan and paste here.  So here are the ingredients:
Cucumbers, water, cauliflower, vinegar, salt, dehydrated red peppers, spice, sucralose (Spenda), xanthum gum, calcium chloride, alum, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate.  Serving size is 1 Tablespoon; Calories 0, Fat 0, Sodium 90mg, Total Carb 0g, Protein 0g.

I personally would think this would be at least 1 carb per Tbl just like Mt. Olive.  Any comments?
Look out Hawaii, I'm on my way!!

I agree Suz  ;) They get away with this because of serving size.

I use this stuff myself but I also only use the serving size. I probably don't use any more than 2 tbsp for my Chicago dogs ( gotta do those PROPER here in the upper Midwest!) so I just don't stress. I suppose it could be a huge issue if you really use a LOT of relish. Otherwise, I don't worry too much about things like that because I would absolutely drive myself INSANE and then eat everything in sight. Tried that before. It didn't turn out too well.  :o

I keep the Kroger sugar free relish all the time!  I use it to make 1000 Island dressing!   I just put mayo, sf ketchup, a little of the relish.....and it's good!

I use the store brand of Splenda-sweet relish along with Splenda-sweet gerkins. They are good tasting but since going off the heavy duty carbs I noticed they taste almost too sweet! Sometimes I even have a sweet pickle at the end of a meal (a dessert pickle!) I do recommend trying them both if you haven't already, cause either one works well in a meat & cheese roll up.-
