Boredom Eating
« on: October 10, 2012, 02:30:43 AM »
Suggestions please - I am having a bout of boredom eating that I need to nip in the bud.  Usually it is on a weekend, but today I have found myself picking at food (all low carb - but beside the point).  Not sure if it is the the fact I have nightshift tonight and that I try to have a relatively light day as I have to work later.  I have almost drunk my water quota, so it's not as if I haven't tried 'drowning' my stomach.

It's not as though I haven't had things to do today either, but still reaching for that food.

So if anyone has any suggestions, there would be one grateful fts-er.

This is exactly what I was talking about in the last post I wrote to you.  ::) The first thing you should do is go here and scroll down to the "Refrigerator Reminder" click the picture and download it, print it out and post it on your fridge and pantry- http://www.fattoskinny.com/articles.htm       ;)

And go by yarn and some knitting needles or something to keep your hands busy.  That seems to work for me by breaking the hand-to-food-to-mouth circuit.  My family knows I'm sick if my hands are idle.

Hi Morgan! :)

The problem is caused by the boredom which can result in "boredom eating".

Find things to do to occupy your mind (and body) each day.
Drink lots of water.
And get plenty of sleep.

In those rare moments when I'm a bit bored and think I'm hungry, I'll drink a very tall glass of ice water.
That will nip it in the bud for me.

You'll do fine! :)

For me....chewing gum and keeping those hands busy! :)  I'm a boredom eater, too, so I have to ask myself if I REALLY am hungry or if I just want to eat. The answer isn't always what I want to hear....but I try to hold myself accountable to it.

That little reminder sign that Doug made works for me every time. I have it on my fridge and when I go there just to nibble it reminds me not to. Also, I keep sunflower seeds at my desk. They are super low in carbs and if I'm just a little peckish they do the trick. They also make me feel like I'm getting something crunchy, which for me sometimes is all I need.
