Day Two of FTS and have gained 1.1#.....help!?
« on: January 03, 2013, 08:15:52 AM »
So, I have the book. am listening to the disk and have been counting my carbs.  Day 1, gained .6#, day 2 gained .5#.  The only thing I have touched with sugar alcohols is gum, and not much of that.  I have been eating eggs, egg beaters, some chicken, some shrimp, salads, SF jello.  I even gave up my coffee after seeing that there were some carbs in that.  If I keep this up I'm going to explode.  Any thoughts?  I just did Weight Watchers this past Summer and only lost 9# in 4 months, which I gained back over the holidays.  Now on FTS and gaining more?  I am 51, female and post menopausal, I know all that is working against me as well.  I have been getting around 30 minutes a day on the treadmill or the eliptical.

Heidi.....go lock the scale in the trunk of your car for a couple of weeks. Being obsessed with it will drive you nuts! I know you want to wiggle your nose and have the weight disappear but that's not how it works  :o. Step 1 is to make certain you're not taking in any extra hidden carbs and it looks like you are not. Step 2 is to make sure you're not overeating by following the 15 minute rule.

The 15 minute rule will be your best friend. make a plate....then take a second plate and cut the portion right down the middle. Eat one plate and wait a full 15 minutes. The easiest way to do that is to do something while your waiting. Heck come onto the forum, go water the plants, something to take your mind off the fact that you're waiting. Then after 15 minutes take a body check...Are you still hungry? If not wrap the other plate and put it away. If s, eat a little more and wait another 10 minutes or so. Soon you'll discover "your" proper portion sizes.

Finally STAY OFF THE SCALE for a couple of weeks while your body starts to adjust. The added exercise is wonderful for your body and attitude so keep it up.  8)

In short time periods, our bodies will gain and lose pounds for many different reasons.
It's what happens over the long haul that matters.
So like Doug said, lose the scale for a while and learn portion sizes that are right for you.

Heidi,
I agree with all of the advice to put the scale away for a while.  We can offer specific advice if you post EXACTLY what you are eating.  It's possible that your "salad" had lots of hidden carbs.  Be careful of depriving yourself of coffee if you really enjoy it.  .6 carbs per cup will not be your downfall.  Large portions and carb creep will derail you, though.

You didn't say anything about drinking water and that is a very important part of a healthy diet.  A minimum of 64 ounces and more is better.  Your bladder will adjust in a short time and the water helps your liver flush the fat away.

We're here to help and we really want you to succeed!

Hello Heidi!  Welcome to the forum.  Please don't let that scale get you discouraged.  If you will give this lifestyle a chance, I KNOW it works.  I will be 50 in April, in surgical menopause since 2003, and also have hypothyroidism.  I didn't exercise at ALL until I had already lost 90 pounds on FTS.  The folks here are wonderful and they always have our backs.  Hang in there.  You can do this!  :)

Best wishes to you Heidi.  Doug is right, take it slow and easy and just keep doing the right things.  Read the breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner menus.  I have been on the forum for a little while longer than you and have just discovered in the bread section, something called the ...one minute muffin.  It is delish.  Take your time and try some of these recipes out.  Find the ones you love, create your own after a while, and just enjoy this new life style.  It's good having you on the forum!
