Now I understand...
« on: February 07, 2013, 08:32:19 AM »
Now I understand why a lot of people hate going to the gym.  I'm one of them.

I'm taking the month of February off from running in order to do some rehab/strengthening work to get my knee back in good shape.  Plan to start running again March 1, and if all goes as planned I would love to run my first marathon by the end of this year.

In the meantime, I joined the local Planet Fitness in order to maintain my cardio level with some knee-friendly exercises, such as the recumbent bike or elliptical.  So far I am not enjoying it.  I just find it so boring to be inside, just spinning a machine (even with listening to music or podcasts).   At least it's only $10/month with no contract.  Can't wait to get back out and running again!

Oh, and I was in Sam's Club yesterday and of course spotted another "Lose your weight without even trying" book.  Apparently the concept behind this one is that if you fast for 16 hours a day, you can eat whatever you want for the other 8 hours.  Yeah, that sounds reasonable.  The author is one of the editors of Men's Health magazine, which I guess says a lot about the credibility of that publication also.

The entire concept of this book it complete malarkey!

I wonder how many folks spend 8 hours overstuffing their faces on Thanksgiving,
and then in regret it for 16+ hours after? ::)

This stupid thing sounds like a Dr. Oz invention. >:(

It works if you eat low carb during the 8 hours.

Hi, Andrea! :)

Portion control is as important as carb counts.
That's why, in the FTS program, we eat only when hungry and STOP when no longer hungry.

If we eat far too much low (or high) carb food everyday, we will gain weight.
But it's a given that high carb food will do this far more quickly than low carb food.

Of course the problem with Fasting s that it goes so darn slow!  :o Fasting has some benefits if done occasionally but not for weight loss. A day of water to cleanse your body has never been disproved not to be beneficial for some people. Personally I simply eat great food when I'm hungry and because I eat when I'm hungry I never get so hungry that I overeat. This keeps portion control in check. For those of you interested in an occasional 24 fast for body cleansing please remember to consult your doctor first. Certain medications you may be on may need food in your belly before taking, blood sugar fluctuations may be a problem for you etc...

As far as this book is concerned Scott It's ridiculous! Just another "give em what they want" book to make sales.

The Holy Bible instructs us to fast once in a while.

It is good to allow your digestive tract a period of cleansing and rest now and again.
Especially if you eat any prepackaged or processed foods.

I fast occasionally, and find I feel much better after.
It's just getting past that first hurtle of big hunger that's challenging.
Drinking lots of cold water is a big help.
