How come on the egg cartons nutrition the number of carbs is 0 but in all your recipes they are 1.   :)

Hi shebacon!  Welcome to the forum  :)  

That is a great question!  In our country labeling laws allow food manufacturers to list 0 grams on the label if the food contains less than one gram.  Many times they will manipulate the serving size in order to say that their product is a 0 carb item.  This I am sure gets them many more sales than one that is more truthful.  I love finding 0 carb items  ;D ;D  For instance some of the crystal lights are listed as 0 carb but if you look close the serving size is 1/2 of those little packets.  Yet they tell you to mix the whole thing in your water bottle   :-\  Sneaky   Who uses 1/2 a packet??  Really??   In the case of the egg and the size you are using....they are actually at or below .5 carbs.   If you check for the carb counts on this web site:  http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/  It will show you what the Gov. lists the true carb counts for each size.  Also I like to use this site: http://www.lowcarb.ca/low-carb-tools/hidden_carbs.html  Doug also has a handy Sugar and Carb counter that is a great tool and help as well.  You can find it by clicking on the blinking yellow add at the top of the page.  My hope is that in the future as more and more folks catch on that lowering carbohydrates is the best way to go for [url=http://www.fattoskinny.com/]weight loss[/url] and better health, that we as consumers will insist that the labeling laws be more accurate.  Knowing this and reading label is so important to us low carbers.... Especially when you only have 20 net grams to spend.  They can add up quick if you aren't careful  ::)

In Australia our labelling is a bit more specific (thank goodness).  Very few things are zero  :(
Our nutritional data is per serving then per 100g(mls).  The 100g(mls) is for comparative value - all items must have.
So companies are unable to fudge their serving size results. 

For instance Hellman's Mayo (called Good Foods here) has a serving size of 14g/0.2carbs in Australia, but in the States it's zero.  Our cream also is not zero, nor our bacon, everything has some sort of carbs. Things add up quick.

Eggs vary in size and believe it or not, when you buy a dozen or half - carbs are different.  Average size are about 0.7c, but go up if much larger.  Never get caught out - always read the label, even if you have bought the same thing over and over.  Companies like to change things without warning - we've all been caught out.

Hello Shebacon, what a great forum name :) I could very easily be HEbacon...I really love bacon, so much so that I have to ration it out to myself or Umpa will get burned out on it. The truth is I could eat bacon every day in some recipe and never get tired of it  ::) Now I don't know if your forum name has anything to do with your love of bacon but if it does try these recipes  8)
