Fat burned when walking
« on: April 02, 2013, 04:55:03 PM »
I just returned again after gaining my weight back after giving in to carbs. I am walking for exercise and according to my new app, which shows how many calories I've burned, I burned 500 calories today. How do I figure out how many carbs or fat I burned with this information? Is there a way to figure it out? :-\

Every gram of carbohydrates contains four calories. If your nutrition label says that the food you are eating contains 5 g of carbohydrates, then you are eating 20 calories from carbohydrates.

http://www.sparkpeople.com/ is a good rsource for that, but not a good resource for low carb diet.

Stay away from the calorie counting and stick to carb counting Lori ;) Just keep it simple.

Hi Lori, I agree with Umpa, Calories are simply a general measurement of energy. Your key is to keep your net carbs under 20 and forget about calories. Calorie counters say there's about 400 calories in 8 ounces of steak however as you know steak is pure protein...o carbs so you won't create fat cells with those 400 calories...see how fast you can get confused? Re-read the book and keep things simple, welcome back!  8)

There you go...Umpa's and Doug's wise words. I am learning so much. The feeling of being "not of this world" is hitting me strongly.

Hi, Lori! :)

I welcomed you back on another post of yours.
But I'll say again, "Welcome home!". :) :) :) :) :) :)

To follow up on what Doug and Umpa said about calories...

We know that fats have a very high calorie content.
Many have found that by eating more fat, they can actually boost weight loss progress! :) :) :)

BUT... Portion control is as important as carb counts.
Eat only enough to relieve real hunger.  And never eat when NOT truly hungry.

Hi Lori -- I came back a few months ago also after returning to carbs.....I'd like to suggest that you focus on staying on course each and every day and not being concerned with what the app says (and I've played with those apps in the past also).  This time it is helping me that I focus on "what do I need to do and not do this day to stay on FTS for THIS day".  When I'm doing that my next focus is on "what do I need to do to plan, or get at store, or cook, etc., to stay on FTS for the next coming day".  By the time I do those two things, and take care of my life, and spending time at the gym, my day is done.....and I repeat the next day...

Doug's right, keep it really simple....and focus on staying on plan and staying below those 20 carbs.....and also doing this forever instead of a diet....

Best wishes...

Is like religion, G*d has made it simple for us to know him but men have made him complicated and difficult to know through their so called teachings. So my suggestion to you is keep it simple and don't reinvent the wheel. Doug and Umpa have shown us how to do it. The only thing we got to do is stick to it and enjoy the ride. I know I am :P

I agree!!!... We'll put, Jay! :) :) :)

God wants a personal relationship with each one of us.
He does not want us to invent "religion(s)" to seek Him out.

Thank you to all who replied to my question & welcomed me back. Alot of what you said is ringing a bell. It's been awhile since I read the book & I thought I remembered all I had to do. But, I guess I forgot quite a bit. I will have to get the book out again. But, I will focus on just staying under the 20 carbs. That is much more simple than trying to figure out calories in & calories out. Thanks guys :-X

Hi, Lori! :)

I've read the book over 20 times in 2.5 years.
Every time I read it, it reinforces my knowledge of FTS and helps to keep me focused.

The "20 net carb" rule is really one of two rules that are paramount to this lifestyle.
The other is portion control.
If you eat more than your body requires, it will store the difference as FAT.

But, don't confuse this with calorie or other counts!
Just remember to eat only when you're TRULY hungry and only enough to remove hunger.
Doug's book helps you determine YOUR body's need for food.  Beyond that "need", is excess.

Keep us informed as to how the FTS lifestyle is going for you.
We're here to help you make it to your goal! :) :) :)
