I'm Back :)
« on: June 03, 2013, 01:23:43 PM »
Okay...it's been a very, very long time since I've been on here, almost 2 years. Here's a brief synopsis of what's happened...and A LOT has happened. So in February 2012 I went off the FTS diet because I donated a kidney and part of the testing was to double the normal carbohydrate consumption for the average person's intake to see how my kidneys handled being stressed out...I had to do this for about 2 weeks, and well once I got carbs back in my mouth...I couldn't keep them out. Then in August of 2012 I got pregnant and the pregnancy almost killed me...I've been hospitalized 8 times in the last 6 months, I ended up with all kinds of problems and deficiencies and have outstanding test results looking for cancer right now that I should get this week. Anyhow, on April 18th I had a baby girl :D and while she's just as cute as can be as fat as she can be...I'm not! When I left the diet I was at 186 pounds...now I'm 254 prospectively. I've tried to go back on the diet but I'm struggling HARD this time. Oh, I'm also no longer vegan, just vegetarian. Due to some health issues, I still cannot have very much artificial sweeteners...but stevia seems to do alright. Some products I've found this week I'm in love with include Julia's Paleo Bread and the soda Zevia...anyone else heard or use them? I love them! So, I went back on the low carb Friday and cheated Saturday and Sunday...but today is a new day...I definitely need support seems like the second time is harder than the first. My goal is to lose 96 pounds down to 160 or 165! Thanks for listening!
May you be blessed in all your endeavors, but most importantly, may you be humble. God keep you.

TabyTaby,

First, welcome back.  Second, congratulations on the birth of your daughter.  While it sounds like you have been through a lot, you know that you will find all the support you could ever want from your FTS family.  We are here for you.

I have tried Zevia.  Great taste.  Lots of flavors (take a look at their website: www.zevia.com).  But the only store near me that sells it is EXPENSIVE so I stick with other sodas.

Now that you are back, post often.

TabyTaby....I am sorry that you are having so many health problems.  You are blessed to have a baby daughter.  I started back the 20th of June and have already lost 10 pounds.  I feel great and am working on the next 10.  Getting through detox is the hard part and the cravings for sugar and carbs should subside after that.  Believe in yourself and you can achieve your goals.  Glad you are back!

Thanks everyone! It's nice to be back...I absolutely hate that I have to lose 90 pounds for a SECOND time, but I won't make the mistake a third. I keep trying to remind myself..."Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!" I made the mistake of eating some sugar free candies and paid a dear price for it...I know I can't eat sugar substitutes, which is why I love the Zevia, it is expensive, but I haven't found any others I can have. Good to be back, will try to keep up the updates and hopefully they will include great weight loss  :-*
May you be blessed in all your endeavors, but most importantly, may you be humble. God keep you.

Welcome home, TabyTaby!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Congrats on your baby girl! ;D ;D ;D

The best sweetener I've ever tried BY FAR is FTS Zero!
Unlike most sweeteners, it has no sugar alcohols that cause tummy issues and weight loss stall outs.
And it tastes VERY, VERY good! :) :) :)

We'll be right here to help stay on your goal path, TabyTaby... You CAN do it! ;)

Thanks I hadn't heard of that one! So I'm down from 256 on Friday to 250 today...but I haven't dug my heels in like I should have been doing, so it's back to real business today. I'll have to look for the FTS zero! I'm excited about all the new possibilities since I am doing dairy/egg products now...opens a whole new area of food for me. I found some tortillas, the brand is Ole and they are low carb (5g) for a medium size tortilla since they stopped carrying LaTortilla Factory tortillas :( sad situation. I live in a tiny rural town so it was only a matter of time...but the paleo bread has been exciting! Hope to check in soon with more weight loss!!! Side note, anyone else has a ticker that is hard to read? Mine seems to be fuzzy and small.
May you be blessed in all your endeavors, but most importantly, may you be humble. God keep you.

Hi again, TabyTaby! :)

I just noticed you mentioned eating "Julia's Paleo Bread".
Is that bread from Julian's Bakery?

If so, they use deceptive labeling for carb content.
They one of a number of manufacturers that are misleading (or dishonest) about net carb accuracy.
The reason they get away with it is because the FDA's rules on carb counts is very lax.

See Doug's post about Julian's Bakery;
http://www.fattoskinny.net/index.php?topic=147.msg361#msg361

When purchasing any product, I check to see if any one (or more) of the first three ingredients is known to be high carb (e.g. wheat flour), I DO NOT buy it!

The FTS Bakery Book is loaded with wonderful substitutes for breads and cakes.

Good evening! Yes, I think that is the same one...however there's not any flour or wheat or grains or any of that in the loaf I have, and it hasn't stunted my weight loss at all. I am not diabetic nor have ever been at risk for it so I don't check my blood sugar...but the ingredients on my loaf all check out to be decent, lower carb ingredients... (Purified Water, Blanched Almond Flour, Organic Coconut Flour, Egg Whites, Psyllium, Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Baking Soda) that's what's on my loaf...I read the link about what Doug posted, but I didn't see anything in the ingredients that would contradict the carb count. Anyhow, if I notice a weight loss stall, I'll know where to cut back first :) thank you. I've looked through the FTS bakery goods...but many call for ingredients I can't consume due to health issues so it gets to be very tricky. Almond biscuits seem to work for me and some of the flaxseed stuff SOMETIMES :\ very irritating. Thanks again.

Let me add that Doug's posting on that seems to be a few years ago and this paleo "bread" is newly released but I posted the ingredients so you can see...I obviously would not eat anything that had any other flour than almond, coconut, or flax due to carbs...like dreamfield's pasta...oh brother  >:(

Having another concern when it comes to lowcarbing...I LOVE pasta, LOVE LOVE LOVE and I HATE HATE HATE Shirataki noodles, with a passion, tried them several times several ways and can't stand them. I ordered a whole box and half the box expired because I couldn't take it anymore it was awful to me, and I can't do tofu due to allergies and other crap I deal with...anyhow, besides spaghetti squash is there any other pastas out there to make? I know about zucchini pasta but I've read you need a device or some sort of machine to shred the zucchini...any other options???

Hi TabyTaby  I don't believe I have welcomed you back to the forum.....Welcome   :)  I think you are right about the ingredients in the bread but just be cautious when purchasing products by them.  I try to shy away from companies that have claims for their products that aren't on the up and up.  Even if the discrepancy is in the past, it makes me angry that folks try to fool the public for the sake of profit    >:(  Very much like the dreamfields pasta you mention.  What the heck are protected carbs anyway??  Ha!  That stuff will shoot my blood sugar just as high as regular pasta   :-\

You don't need a fancy device to make the zucchini pasta.  I'm a gadget girl so I have lots but I don't let it stop me if I don't have one  ;D  Necessity is the mother of invention right??  Haha  You can just slice your zucchini into skinny strips and then use a potato peeler to slice them even smaller.  Here is a picture of a julienne slicer that is pretty cheap.  You can find these at most any place that sales kitchen things.  This one is from Bed Bath and Beyond for $9.   ;)  I also love love the shredded cabbage as pasta  ;D  If you don't want to cut it yourself just get the angel hair cabbage package in the produce section where you buy the bagged salad and coleslaw mixes.   Hope this helps  :)

Thanks TooSweet! I haven't seen that one! I was down this morning to 249...losing about a pound a day, I was thrilled finally move into the "240s" from 250s, it's always good to see a new smaller second number :D at least until I can see a new smaller first number!!! The under 200 mark is the BEST! Thanks again I will be looking into that slicer :D
