What Keeps You From Going Off The Rails?
« on: June 20, 2013, 07:04:55 PM »
I do a lot of thinking on my drive home off nightshift and as I was listening to Doug subliminally on my iPod, I was wondering what is it that keeps me on the rails.  I mean I am on a stall, I could have so easily tossed it in weeks ago.

So the answer/s -

1- forum mainly, I check in daily.  The wonderful support here.  I get to vent here, get someone to listen to me and give me advice when I need it.  I know I am not the only one facing this.  I am pretty isolated here where I live and my friends tend to roll their eyes when they see what I don't eat when we are out.  They getting used to it though, they have stopped trying to encourage me to eat things I don't want.

2 - fear - I am terrified  that if I do go off I won't have the strength to get back on (I truly admire those that come back and recommit, cos it's hard to make something work again after it got broke)

3 - Doug - I loaded the motivational CD on my iPod and as I am driving (and I have long drives to get to anywhere) I listen to Doug in the background 'rebooting' all the things I know I should be doing.  That's what I mean by subliminally.

So what keeps you on track?

What keeps me on track:

1. I've done it once, I can do it again.
2. I got a taste of what it felt like to be THIN.
3. My dad died at 31 of a heart attack...I don't want to die from food.
4. My husband, he's a handsome, strapping man that deserves a sexy wife...
5. Our intimacy, hope this isn't TMI but ya'll are life family, when I'm big like I am now, and he's so fit, I don't like to be intimate because I hate how I look, and that hurts our marriage.
6. I have beautiful kids, and I don't want them to be embarrassed of their fat mom.
7. My SKINNY PANTS! Sounds stupid, but I SO love those pants, and I miss wearing them :(
8. I recently went to my class reunion, I was the ONLY girl there that had gained weight, one of our friends lost 100 pounds...I was just there myself in 2011!
9. I'm tired of hiding from former classmates and people I haven't seen in a long time because I feel bad about myself. I'm tired of hiding in produce :\
10. Because I deserve better and I'm tired of feeling like everyone is talking about me when the topic of "Obesity in America" comes up

Some of these might seem shallow, but these are my reasons...and they FAR outnumber the reasons for why I want to eat chocolate cake all day :P
May you be blessed in all your endeavors, but most importantly, may you be humble. God keep you.

For me, it's very simple, Morgan.

When I started FTS, my doctor and I were starting to wonder if I was going to be alive in another few years.
But with the FTS success, my health is now FANTASTIC!
And now, I intend to be around a long time! ;D

We should all remember that our health is what's most important and precious.
And we should do what we can to preserve it.
FTS is one way we can do just that! :) :) :)

Great idea for posting Morgan --

and great reasons everyone  -- Morgan you have a strategy in your reasons for success, and you sound very determined.

All of your reasons everyone are very inspiring and makes one think.

I won't give up because I know that if I give up now, all the weight I've worked so hard to lose will come back one fat cell at a time.

Taby -- I agree, there is nothing that feels sexy about too much flab!

Tony, we are so glad you got healthy and are still with us -- you always say the right thing and are so helpful, wouldn't like to think about your not being with us  :)

I may have a job interview for a Music Ministry position in the next year.  I want to look professional for an interview AND the job.

Also, where I work now I wear a uniform and I'd really like to be able to look fitter, more trim in that uniform....another good reason...

Jay I agree with your reason -- we are vessels of the Holy Spirit, that's a great thing to honor.

I LOVE all these reasons...and I"d like to add one if you don't mind. For 10 years I've waited for God to call me into the overseas mission field, I thought when I married and had kids, the dream was over. Recently I got invited to go to Haiti and help teach children, work with children in foster care, do some social work, help with clean water, and bringing the gospel to the people there...well, there are a few things I have to do first, I have to raise 1600 dollars, and lose weight, because we are planning to go in July of next year, and we all know Haiti is hot and fat and hot don't mix  :D :D so that is helping spur me onward!!!
May you be blessed in all your endeavors, but most importantly, may you be humble. God keep you.

We all must remember that the Lord works in mysterious ways.
And that NOTHING is impossible to Him!

Where we see walls, He makes doors! :)

What keeps me going:

I am not perfect, I strive for 85-90% or better compliance with my goals - I know I'm human and I will stumble occasionally but I will never stop trying. I know this is for life, no all or nothing attitude for me, that sets me up for failure and giving up. No can do!

My family history. Cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, mental illness...all run in my family and eating right (and exercise) has helped me avoid all of it so far (okay well I'm only a little bit crazy). I want to keep up that trend!

My children: I want to be a healthy vital example for my kids and my spouse. I also like having the energy to take care of the ones I love as much as I can. I like being someone they can depend on for things.

My work: my job is physically and mentally challenging. If I don't stay on course I make myself more prone to catching viruses, getting sick, and overworking myself to the point of weakening my immune system. Plus I have to touch other people's keyboards and mice everyday as part of my job which used to make me sick a lot. I don't get sick like that hardly at all any more. I used to get pneumonia, my allergies were worse and that led to other problems like ear infections, laryngitis, sinus infections, colds, etc. If I eat right then I just manage minor allergy symptoms, have no signs of asthma anymore, can rest one day and bounce right back if i get tired or run down or can avoid getting what the whole rest of my family catches which is amazing to me in itself. I used to be the first to catch everything!

I like fitting in my clothes consistently or having them get loose is even better and since moving to FTS from Atkins, it's happening! I had a small head start since I didn't really have to detox much (I've been moderately low carb since Jan 2010) but now I'm finally getting the results I started after way back then. Yay! That's enough motivation in itself, however my next reason is funny...

Habit. Yep. Eating this way is already a habit so I've just had to tweak it and retune it to be more effective. I'm happy about that part because certain habits are pretty easy to stick with like ordering my hamburgers without a bun and getting it wrapped in lettuce, no ketchup, add mustard and mayo. :) It's much easier now. There's a flip side to it though. I've had to unlearn a few habits that i found were detrimental to this process but it hasn't been too bad so far. Not at all. :)

That's about it!

You are doing great! :)

I agree!!!
You have a wonderful attitude that will carry you a very long way, Michelle! :) :) :)

And I too enjoy much better health since adopting the FTS lifestyle.
In the last three years, I have not caught one cold (or other common ailment).
It seems living this way boosts the immune system! ;D

Very true. I used to be the "sickly kid" and sickly adult that caught everything that was going around. Only since I really stopped eating junk did I get to the point where everyone else would get sick and I would not even get a case of the sniffles. It's really strange for me. I also have found I don't need as much sleep - that's a really strange side effect for me. I used to sleep so much! Now I am good with 6 hrs a night and feel no real need for more. It drives my husband crazy (I have always been a night owl and he goes to bed early) but I just can't sleep more than that. Occasionally on a Saturday or Sunday I will "sleep in" but these days I just don't need to...

Hi, Michelle! :)

One of the many benefits of getting healthier with FTS is not only a stronger immune system,
but the body, in general, will operate much more efficiently.

Part of that gained efficiency can be a reduced requirement for sleep.
I too have noticed that I can get by with less sleep and feel great! ;D

Also, since our bodies are not constantly "at war" metabolically dealing with glucose spikes,
that energy can be used for other things. The huge increase in energy we get after detox,
demonstrates that our cells are working much better.

Well said Michelle! Seeing some of your other health issues subside doesn't surprise me at all. Eating great healthy fresh foods is the first step to building a strong immune system.

The Inuits have long survived with far less health issues than their neighbors in the lower 48 eating mainly proteins and fats!

Stay the course :)
