Toosweet thank you so much for posting "secret of sugar" I couldn't figure how to post it.  We were talking about the show at lunch and it became a heated topic. Everyone did not agree that sugar makes you fat." Fat makes you fat" I wanted to pull my hair out :-\ in point my coworkers, myself included, that are chubby,  love to eat cookies, cakes, sugar.
My thin co-workers I hardly ever see them eat sweets and we have work together for a long time.  ]nteresting  :)

I am new to this site and am trying to figure it out.  I wish I was 50 again.  I am 67, mother of 10, grandmother of 33, and still teaching high school English.  About 24 years ago, I quit smoking, hit menopause and developed a tumor in my right foot.  Within a year I had ballooned up from 130 lbs. to 185 lbs.  The tumor in my foot was growing and becoming more painful, HOWEVER - the 3 different medical specialists I visited over the next 14 years could find nothing and told me it must be nerve damage, etc.  Well, by then I had become very inactive, walking less and less in order to avoid the pain.  No excuses, I had just given in to the "poor me" syndrome and moved less - eaten more junk, and was now up to about 205 lbs.  I heard of yet another foot specialist and decided to give him a try.  This wonderful man ordered an MRI (none of the others had) and by golly a tumor the size of a golf ball was found.  The doctor removed it and the pain was relieved.  That was 8 years ago.  I have tried every diet known but just don't stick it out.  I truly believe I have formed the habit of "breaking" my diet.

I have done low carb eating before and feel better when I eat this way.  I found Doug's book and am impressed with it and the recipes.  I am going to commit to this lifestyle and hope the recipes will provide variety.

I have been reading the testimonies and posts tonight.  They are so inspiring and the friendly posts are comforting.  One post commented on how people who don't have this weight issue just don't understand.  This is true.  I am so angry with myself for allowing this to happen to me - yet I don't do anything about it.  I am 5'3" and am now 212lbs.  I have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart valve prolapse (or something??), diabetes 2, allergies, diverticulosis, and probably other stuff too.  Losing the weight would help or cure all of these conditions.

I don't know if I have done this post correctly or not, but I appreciate anyone reading this if I have.  I plan to begin the low carb lifestyle Monday, October 14, 2013.  I am not sure how many carbs per day I should start with.  In the past, I had to stick with 20 or less to lose.  I think I am pretty resistant.  I will welcome any advice, hints, tips - and certainly prayers!

Again, thanks for reading this rambling post.  sincerely, Mrs. D.

Welcome to our family Mrs D.   :D  I am so glad you have found us.

Losing the weight would help or cure all of these conditions
You are so right but even in the beginning of living this lifestyle way before you lose to your goal weight you will see much improvements in many if not all of those symptoms.  Many of us here have had the same issues that you talk about.  I myself have had a few of them and no longer have to take the meds that my doc had me on.  Most of those changes happened within the first couple of weeks.   :)  My first bit of advice is to keep in mind that this is a lifestyle change and not a diet.  So there is really nothing to break.  Sometimes we slip but we have the knowledge and the tools to get right back on track.  You can do this....we are all here to help.  Please log in often and join in on the conversations.  It certainly is a great tool to keep you accountable and gather encouragement and some great friends along the way.  If we can help in any way please ask  ;)

That being said here are a few tips to start off....

1. With FTS you will need to stay at or under 20 net carbs.  (I found that I had to stay below 15 to keep the scale moving)

2. Be sure to not eat unless you are truly hungry

3. Use the 15 minute rule....make your plate and split it in two, eat half and wait 15 minutes.  If you are still hungry eat a little
more.  More times than not you won't need the other half and you'll have a great meal left for next time.  ;)

4. Be sure to drink plenty of water to help flush your system and keep you hydrated

5. Get plenty of sleep.

6. Always be prepared.  Having a plan is going to be your best defense against slips.  Keep plenty of 0/low carb things like nuts, cheese, hard boiled eggs, meat sticks, veggie trays, etc.... around that will be easy to grab and snack on and have a plan for your meals.

7. Most of all know that we are right here with you  ;D ;D

Well, I guess I posted correctly.  Nice to meet you, Sherri.  I am trying to get my mind right.  I will think "Two weeks."  Surely I can manage for two weeks.  Thanks again for your concern and support.  If I succeed I will bring you many new clients - everyone I know will see the new me!  I have read the book.  It is super.  I am going to start with 20 or less carbs - I know I am extremely carb resistant.

Welcome to the FTS family, Mrs. D.!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

The science behind FTS is rock solid!
We have witnessed its effectiveness over and over again with 100s of people!

Don't only start with, but KEEP your carb intake at or below 20 net carbs per day.
Doing this, you will maximize your progress rate and overall success.

Not to mention, it will optimize how quickly you repair the damage from years of carb overdose.

Looking forward to hearing more about your FTS journey.

Tony

Welcome Mrs.D and Lderrick to the FTS forum. It is a great place to find support and  encouragement. ;D WISHING ALL CANADIANS "HAPPY THANKSGIVING". ;D  I been having some difficulty. Going out to others for dinner I have to watch what I am eating .  I eat a small meal before I go which helps.  I measured today and I am down 3 more inches. Whoot whoot :)
