Does Low Carb Raise Vitamin D?
« on: January 10, 2014, 04:58:23 PM »
Just wondering if eating a low-carb diet can raise your vitamin D levels? Because I've always been low in vitamin D and have been supplementing for many years. But ever since I started the low-carb diet back in September, my vitamin D levels have gone through the roof! It was at 98 up from around 45! My doctor is having me stop my supplements completely for a while to see what happens.

Thanks a bunch! Of those, I'm only eating 7, 8, and 9 - but I wasn't really eating eggs before so maybe that's what's doing it...? Forgot to mention my calcium was also high and I'm not supplementing, so not sure what's up with that either...

You are getting those vitamins from the foods you are eating which is the best way to get your vitamins ;)

Now that you say that about the calcium too Jacki, I wonder if you may be a little deficient in magnesium.  I've been reading a little about needing that to help absorb calcium and vitamin D.  I can't remember where I read it though sorry  :-\  It was saying that it was a typical happening when eating a low carb diet.  I was doing the research because of the kidney stones I've been having trouble with.  If your body can't absorb them your numbers will be high.  Or maybe I'm looking at it wrong??  Worth looking into  ;)

Yes, TooSweet! I've always been deficient in magnesium and probably need to use the oil kind a little more again...
