I'm New Here
« on: February 03, 2014, 07:46:56 PM »
Hi Everyone,

This is my first day on this plan.  I picked up the book completely at random while I was just browsing through barnes and noble.  I found it really insightful and loved how Doug explains about sugar addiction.  I have tried a similar diet before (south beach) but could never get past the first two weeks.  I never did understand though the reasoning behind this way of eating and I hope this time I can make it work.  I want to lose about 70-80 pounds in total.  If anyone has any tips for me on how to get past the first couple of weeks that would be so great.  I really want this to work :)

Welcome Mare I am Umpa,Dougs wife.If I can help you please ask.The reason Fat to Skinny works so well is it is a lifestyle change, we dont take food items away we replace them so you lose the weight and there are no items to add  in to make you gain the weight back ,cycle broken.I have a column on the homepage called ask umpa where I can convert any recipe to fat to skinny friendly.Detox is 2 weeks and is no different than quitting smoking or detoxing from drugs. You can have flu like symptoms ,headaches, and dizzyness.Sugar is a drug.Once you get through detox your energy level will go through the roof and you will feel like a million bucks.Drink lots of water so you can flush your system and the fat.Peanut butter helped me  ;)

I said this on another post of yours. But it bears repeating...
Welcome to the FTS family, Mare!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

I lost over 80 pounds living the FTS lifestyle.
Of the dozens of other plans I've tried over the years, this is the ONLY one that
I know I will be able to continue doing for the rest of my life!

Umpa is right!... Sugar detox (usually the first 10-14 days) are the toughest.
It is also the time when cravings for carbs are the greatest.

You may be one of the lucky ones whose symptoms are very mild.
No matter what, we'll be right here to help you along.
So don't ever be afraid to let us know if you need anything to help you. :) :) :)

Hi Umpa, thanks so much for the reply.  I am having a hard time :( it's day three and omg I almost caved yesterday I just wanted to stuff my face with cake or a snickers bar or something. Such bad cravings.  also I've had a constant headache for the past three days :/ I just keep saying to myself make it through the first week.  I really just don't want to go back.  The ask umpa column sounds fantastic.  I will have to use it sometime :)

Hi Tony, Thank you so much.  That's amazing how much you lost.  That is my dream to accomplish that.  It's hard though, sugar withdrawals really stink.  The worst is the headache and just feeling weak!!! But sounds like if I make it through this week and next week it will get easier.

Keeping in touch and not being afraid to ask about anything I don't understand - which was a lot !  I'm still learning while the inches keep coming off.  I agree peanut butter, jello and reddi whip helped me not cave :)

Hello Mare, welcome to the family!

Thank you.  I'm almost through the first week.  I will weigh myself tomorrow morning and hopefully it will be good news!! how much does the average person lose in the first week? and how much weight should I aim to lose per week after that? some people say 2 pounds a week is a good pace.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone  ;D I'm trying.  The first 3 days were horrible.  I had a constant headache.  But the headache is gone now thank God.  I feel better but I'm still craving sugar and bread and pasta :( I hope soon the cravings will die down.

I keep a SF Hershey's bar in the purse for times when I walk near a bakery or bake shop and times when I get a headache.  And sometimes my headache tells me I need a break - like a 20 min cat nap :)

Thanks sunshine! I've discovered russel stovers sf candies!!! mmm! I love the peanut butter cups and the pecan delights . they taste just like the real deal  ;D also sugar free pudding is good. We can have that right? it's only 4 carbs.  Also I'm not doing 20 carbs.  I think I'm averaging 30-40, but that's still a huge change for me. I used to average 250-300 lol.
