Liver Haters -- Keep Out
« on: March 13, 2014, 04:54:06 PM »
This recipe doesn't specify an amount of liver, use the amount you want.  There are lots of people who hate liver, but if you love liver and onions, you'll love this.

Liver And Onions In Gravy

beef liver, rinsed
2 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cup water mixed with 1/2 teaspoon salt
onion as desired, sliced, separated into rings (optional)
1/8 teaspoon pepper
4 oz. cream cheese, sliced

Brown the liver in the butter over medium heat.  Pour the salted water down the side of the skillet, place the onion on top.  Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, covered 30 minutes.

Remover the liver, bring the liquid to a boil.  Stir in the pepper and cream cheese.  Cook and stir until thickened.  Return the liver to the skillet and toss to coat.

Hi, Gang! :)

A word of caution about liver.
Unlike meat from animal muscle, most organ meats have digestible carbs.

Calves Liver has 1 net carb per ounce.
So a 6 ounce serving has 6 carbs.
See; http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list

So don't forget to add these carbs to your daily allowance. ;)

Mary hates the texture of any liver, she won't go near them.

You love liver then Morgan!

Mary doesn't like it when meat is "mushy".

I like liverwurst & pate too.

Hi. Morgan! :)

Generic liverwurst sausage has about 0.6g net carbs per ounce.
Generic pate, a bit less, but about the same.

As you know, ALWAYS read the nutrition labels for carb counts and ingredients.
Some prepackaged foods have additives that add carbs.

Like pre shredded cheese that had added starch to help it not stick together. I learned that the hard way :)

I read nutritional labels like I have OCD Tony.  You don't know when manufacturers are going to change it.   :)

Our newbies should take note though - READ the labels/ingredients.  Always!

That's the kind of OCD that will help us get and stay healthy, Morgan! ;)

I'm just like you in that way.
We NEVER know when manufacturers will add a carby additive.

So true Tony, I got some beautiful white balsamic vinegar from food bank. Read the label and it has sugar & carbs. Threw it in my give away "carb" box.
