new to FTS
« on: October 03, 2014, 10:14:18 AM »
Hi!  I am new to FTS and this online forum. I Have read the FTS book twice and am on day 19. I am down 14 pounds and am very happy!  I was reading a post by Doug referencing someone who had "plateaued" in their weight loss. Doug mentioned "heavy green veggies" . Can Doug or someone be more specific as to "heavy green veggies"?   Thank you.

Welcome 2thfxr! I am Umpa,Dougs wife if I can help you please ask.I have a column on the homepage called Ask Umpa where I can convert your favorite foods to fat to skinny friendly :) Plateaus are usually just your body resetting after initial weight loss.Just stay with the plan and the weight will come off,its science. As far as heavy green vegetables cabbage, green beans, spinach and kale.Congrats on the weight loss you are doing great!! ;D

Welcome to the party 2thfxr :) Heavy greens are very filling at the same time very low in carbs. Protein and heavy greens will keep your portion sizes down and will break your plateau.  8)

Welcome to the FTS family, 2thfxr!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

You're of to a wonderful start! ;D

And since you've only been living the FTS lifestyle for only about 3 weeks,
like Umpa said, a plateau is very normal.

If you follow Doug's advice, you should restart in a few days.

Thanks Tony!  It is encouraging to know that the plateau will be overcome.  How long have you been doing FTS?

Hi, 2thfxr! :)

I started living the FTS lifestyle in August 2010, and have never looked back.
I used to be type II diabetic with high blood pressure and terrible cholesterol numbers.
I haven't been healthier or felt better since I was in my 30s (I'm 62).

With so many delicious recipes and options, I'll be eating this way for the rest of my life.
I'm sure FTS has added my years to my life, too! :) :) :)

Wow!  That is awesome!  Congrats!  Do you still try to stay at 20 net carbs or less daily?

Hi, 2thfxr! :)

I've found I can eat a higher number of carbs (25-35 or a bit more) once in a while without major impact.
The key is making those occasions few and far between.

Otherwise, I continue to track everything I eat so that "carb creep" doesn't come in.
If not watchful, it's easy for old bad habits to get reestablished.
And the last thing I want to do is make myself sick again and shorten my lifespan.

Yes I have found that as well.   ;)   I would say that 95 % or my month is within the 20 net carbs.  I never let myself go over 40 though.  The FTS lifestyle is very comfortable way of life for me.  I love that I don't have to take all of those meds any longer.

Welcome to the forum. I'm a bit late in my greetings - in trying to catch up.  You seem to be doing great - plateaus are the pits as everyone knows. You just have to persevere. Sometimes if you are having sugar alcohols or sweetners (like in soft drinks or lollies )they hinder your progress as well.

I'm sure you'll work it out :)
