Another Zero Question
« on: March 03, 2015, 10:47:22 AM »
Just wondering if some people taste the Zero (or Splenda in general) as a bitter taste instead of sweet?  To me it tastes very good - sweet, no aftertaste... love it!  But Gorden keeps saying he tastes an aftertaste and that it tastes bitter :(

We made some homemade whipped cream with it (heavy whipping cream, vanilla, and Zero) and OMG it's amazing to me!  But he keeps wanting to put LESS of the sweetener because he thinks that's what's making it taste bitter!  But to me it tastes bitter if we don't put ENOUGH!  So which is it?!

Now to ME, Stevia has never tasted sweet - it tastes totally bitter - and I read somewhere that to some people this is the case with Stevia...  Are there other sweetener options - what about xylitol or erythrotol?  But dang, it would be hard to give up my Zero!!  :(

Hi, Jackie! :)

As Zero is the sweetness-essence of cane sugar (sucralose),
I can't explain why Gordon experiences a bitter taste.

Could Gordon be taking medications that might effect his sense of taste?
For sure, there is something at play here that's effecting his sense of taste.

I have to giggle a little, Tony, because I'm the one on lots of medications!  Gorden isn't on a thing and never has been...  He also says when he drinks regular Coke (which he doesn't any more) that it tastes bitter to him.  Almost like his sense of taste might be confused  :-\ :-\

Hi, Jackie! :)

That's interesting!!!

I'm baffled regarding Gorden's taste response to Zero.
However, like Gorden, diet Coke tastes bitter to me, too. 8)

Zero has no aftertaste or bitter taste, I suggest 4 ounces of cold water and one drop of Zero. Have Gordon drink the water and decide.  8)

I love my Zero, has no bitter taste to me, I only add a bit of Stevia for an extra sweetness flavor. Tastes do vary, but something is happening to Gorden that he may not be aware of. Try web searching "impaired tongue tastes".
