Metformin-Type 2???
« on: July 16, 2010, 11:57:04 AM »
Wow, I was so excited that I lost 5 pounds in one week...but now the doc put me on Metformin (250 twice a day) and I've gained back 3 pounds!! Still following diet perfectly. Does anyone know if this is common or am I just weird?? :-\ Do those taking metformin notice difficulty losing weight. Maybe I'm concerned for nothing and all will level out. Sure hope so.

I looked up Metformin on webMD and looked at the side affects.  It doesn't say anything about weight gain.  Here is the link     http://www.webmd.com/drugs/mono-7061-METFORMIN+-+ORAL.aspx?drugid=11285&drugname=Metformin+Oral

This is my advice, call the doctor and make an appointment. Go in with your FAT TO SKINNY book in hand and explain that you're on an extremely restrictive low sugar program and that you would like to skip the meds for 30 days while you balance your blood sugar through proper nutrition instead of drugs. I will be surprised if the doc refuses to take you off the meds temporarily while you give it a shot. Let us know the results of your conversation.

I'm going in next week to ask the same thing.  Although I'm not on metformin I am taking three other meds including insulin.  I do believe that insulin will make you gain, seems I heard that somewhere.  Kinda makes sense.....LOL   I can't tell you how excited I am that my blood sugar is starting to stabilize.  I have to take so many other meds that it would be wonderful if I could have control of something.   I think he will be very pleased with my numbers.  At least I am hoping....   I have been keeping track of everything that I eat/drink and my blood sugar through out the day. " DATA to back me up;D ;D  I will have to admit that I am a bit nervous as to what he will say.  I can do this..... I can do this

Hi TooSweet! :)

If your doctor is anything like mine, he will be another FTS believer!
He was floored at how good my entire blood panel looked.
What you do today is what matters!

I sure hope so.  I went today and bought a hard copy of the FTS book ( I had down loaded my first copy to my reader)  I thought it would help to have something in hand to show him.  I've also been keeping a very strict food log along with my blood testing through out different times of the day.  My blood sugar has been wonderful for the last 2 weeks.  I am so happy about that \ :D/   I know the A1C will be bad though because of the previous months.  I don't see where 30 days will hurt...   I so want to come off of some of these meds.  And thanks Umpa I will tell him that, you guys are awesome.
