Question about milk
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:32:30 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm still reading the book for the 2nd time.
Am I right in saying that milk (I only drink 1%) is a no no?
I only drink it in coffee, probably 1/2 - 3/4 cup in total for the day.
Since switching a long long time ago to low fat milk, I can't imagine drinking even half and half, which seems to be the choice of most people here.
I really don't like the creamy taste
any suggestions?
Linda

toddy:) use heavy whipping cream instead(0 carbs) & for an added treat try torani flavored syrup(0 carbs) for a burst of flavor:) nobody here uses 1/2 & 1/2:)

Hi Linda, it's all about sugar not FAT in products. You've been pitched and bought into the low fat life style and that's why you now drink 1% milk. Be advised the sugar content is the same as full FAT milk. The interesting point here is how your tastes have changed by using an alternative product (low fat milk) getting used to it and now will never go back to (full fat milk).  This is the essence of the strength of the FAT TO SKINNY life style change. We replace everthing you love with a low sugar replacement. Things may taste a "tad different" but you learn to love those flavors and won't go back.

Gary suggested heavy cream to you and I know what you did... you went HEAVY CREAM???? how can that be healthy for me :) He is correct though simply water it down to the consistency you like. You should also try unsweetened almond milk.

Don't worry all will be well :)

Hi Doug and Gary,
No I wasn't surprised at the heavy cream comment, I'm sure I read somewhere in a post that someone was using half and half.  I could be wrong, but I'm doing a fair bit of research here!
I understand the concept re the sugar etc. etc., I just know that the thought of heavy cream is kind of gross to me in coffee, but you're right - I'll probably get used to it.  I'll try watering it down, that's probably best.  I don't actually like creamy, sweet coffee.  Perhaps I should just go to black!?
Anyways, I will investigate with my taste buds....lol

LOL Doug - have you been checking my fridge?
I bought the sweetened one, then realised I should have bought the unsweetened one - another dorky mistake (I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed at times!).  Anyways I only bought one of the original - then went back and bought an unsweetened original and an unsweetened vanilla.  You seem to need a lot to lighten your coffee!
I'm off to the grocery store today, to check out my low-carb options and stock up so I can begin - I might be heading to the cream area - and water it down as you suggested.  The almond milk is ok, but .......

Maybe you could thin down your cream with the almond milk?

I watered it down this morning - not too impressed.

I watered it down yesterday with almond milk - much better.

Think you've hit on a winner there Paula!

Thanks!
