Confused about pork rinds

Can someone please tell me what pork rinds are.  Might sound stupid, but seriously, I don't know what they are?  Are they snacks?
I'm an Aussie in Canada and this something new to me.  I don't even know if you can get them here.
My hubby says they have something called Porkies here - is that the right thing?

Help!

It's not something I've ever seen here in Canada. Seems to be a snack product that comes packaged in a bag like potato chips. It is available online from the Toronto low carb store     www.thelowcarbgrocery.com

I've seen posts on other boards that say they've found them in Ontario at Walmart or Bulk Barn but I haven't looked. Both those stores are too far away from me.  :)  Good luck.

I found pork rinds at a Metro (A&P, Dominion) store, they were sold in a snack size and I think they were called Bac-uns but they were nasty, I expected a bacon flavor but it was more like really dried out pork skin (which is what they are essentially). I threw those out and next went to an asian grocery store and found a couple of different brands that were flavored with garlic and bacon. I haven't tried them out yet, but they seem promising.

Oh, don't throw them away! Even if you don't like them as a snack by themselves they make a terrific coating when ground up for fried foods. Please remember to post where you find them on the Canadian product thread.

I found some at Metro today Stevo, they did look nasty.
I didn't buy them.
I have no idea how to use them.....still.
I so don't want to eat fried food.  I've never really been a fan.

I know that Doug talks about using them as a substitute for 'Shake & Bake', if they are ground up quite fine and mixed with some spices they would give you a coating for chicken or pork. They might also be used as a basic substitute for bread crumbs, say in hamburger meat when you are making burgers or meat loaf. I bought them to have on hand for when I get a craving for potato chips, I hoped they would satisfy when I felt I needed a salty/crunchy snack.

Another great subsitute for potoe chips Steve is Eat Smart Soy Chips.They are really good! They are 6 carbs for 22 chips.Katary also grinds down his pork rinds linda and uses them as bread flour. ;)
