General Discussion / Frequency of weight-loss plateaus?
« on: September 21, 2012, 08:52:15 AM »
Hello FTS Family,

Quick question: how often do you hit a weight loss plateau? A couple of weeks ago, I was stuck at 210 lbs. Then I dropped a few lbs. down to my current 201/202. I've been stuck here for about a week. I really want to get under 200 lbs...haven't seen that in 10 years!

Is this normal? I haven't changed eating habits. And I'm exercising as well.

Ask Umpa / Chicken adobo.
« on: September 03, 2012, 12:47:52 PM »
Hi Umpa (and everyone else)!

I was hoping to get some guidance on Bragg's Liquid Amino's. I've been using it to make a common Filipino dish (I'm Filipino) called adobo.

Normally you just marinate chicken in 1/2 cup of soy sauce and 1/2 cup of vinegar. Then you boil it for about 25 minutes.

I've been using Bragg's to replace the soy sauce. The Bragg's label says that there are 100mg of carbs per 1/2 tbsp. Since there are 8 tbsp. in 1/2 cup, my math says that there are 1.6g of carb from the Bragg's.

Is my math correct? Is there anything I should know about Bragg's or counting liquid carbs in general?

Thanks.

General Discussion / How exercise is helping my weight-loss.
« on: August 16, 2012, 06:55:20 PM »
Hello everyone,

I know that cutting carbs is the real way to lose fat, but I've found that exercise is helping to increase my weight loss as well. When I first (re)started the "lifestyle," I did not exercise at all. My weight loss was decent during these couple of weeks, but nothing like it is now.

A few weeks ago, I started walking every day and immediately noticed an increase in weight loss(roughly a pound every other day). This week, I began a program that will help me to eventually run a 5k. You build on the previous week, so for this week I walk for 5 minutes, jog for 60 seconds, walk for 90 seconds etc. for 20 minutes. My weight loss with this has been very steady. I haven't been keeping charts, but since starting, I've gone from 245 lbs. down to 218 today. I'm not starving myself or anything like that...I just think that exercise is helping.

Exercising has also given me a lot of energy and I've noticed that I don't have as big of an appetite.

Anyways, I just wanted to share my personal experience because I'm really feeling great. I actually look forward to exercising every day.

General Discussion / Once a month cheat.
« on: July 23, 2012, 08:21:37 AM »
Every 4th Monday, I go to a fraternal meeting where dinner is served. The meals are not FTS friendly and I'm wondering if "cheating" once a month is going to set me back a lot. I would not eat the whole meal, I would just eat enough for them to not bombard me with questions. It's a tuxedo event and I don't know if bringing my own dinner is appropriate.

Any suggestions/comments?

General Discussion / Trying it again.
« on: July 20, 2012, 07:38:35 AM »
Hello everyone,

I first tried FTS in 2010 and lost over 30 lbs. in a month. But soon after that weight loss, I got a job that requires me to travel in an automobile for most of the day. So it got really difficult to maintain the lifestyle. I eventually gained back all of the weight.

I still have the same job, but I decided to try FTS again. I'm entering my 2nd week and I feel great.

I've also discovered that when I eat natural foods, the weight comes off. If I eat non-natural foods or drinks, like Atkins bars and EAS 3 carb drinks, my weight stays the same. So I'm just sticking to stuff that I can make for myself. It's difficult to do that because I work full time and I am also a grad student, but I'm tired of being fat so it's worth it!

I haven't really been checking the scales because I don't want it to be a contest, but I think I've lost around 10 lbs. already. The real notice is in my clothes. I had to go to a tuxedo event the other night and I discovered that the tux was fitting better much better than it used to. So I'm happy about that.

Anyways, I look forward to resuming my journey with you fine folks.

Doug, thanks again for the amazing book. I've been recommending it to family and friends. Will let you know if any of them try it out for themselves.

Hello everyone,

I'm a 32 year old male from Alexandria, VA. I actually bought Fat to Skinny a couple of months ago and have been on a kind of roller coaster ride with my diet. I used Doug's diet and lost 32 lbs. in a month. I also started going to the gym, so I thought I could bring back some of those foods that I love but that didn't work: I gained 6 lbs. in just a few weeks. So now I'm sticking to the new lifestyle again and feel great.

Anyways, I look forward to interacting with all of you. I've already found some recipe ideas that I want to try so I'm heading to the grocery store!
