For a pound of ground beef use 1 1/2 cups of low carb spagetti sauce.Look for a spagetti sauce at the grocery store that is 5 carbs or less per serving.Let me know how this works. When my grandson leaves i will make this myself and play with it.Chili is one of my favorites!don't forget the grated cheddar on top!YUM!

Im having a really hard time finding a low carb/ low sugar spaghetti sauce.....Im not sure what to do or even what the serving size should be or the carb count. I seem to have the most trouble with that and havent been cooking much because of it. Now Im getting really tired of my boring diet just cause I have trouble figuring out the carb count and serving size when I do cook something. How do you add it up when there are different ingredients that all have different net carbs? How do you know the portion size?

I have in my hand a spagetti sauce I just bought at the grocery store called Victoria Roasted Garlic Sauce. It is 4 grams carb -2grams fiber=2 grams of carbs per half cup serving. Below i have typed out a chili sample recipe.
Chili
1/2 cup onions= 5 net carbs
1 cup spagetti sauce=4 net carbs
ground beef= 0 carbs
dry spices(chili powder,onion powder,garlic powder,etc)=0
Grated cheese for topping =1 carb
_________________________________
Total 10 carbs for 2 large bowls  ( i don't know how many people you are cooking for)
A hint* marinara sauces are usually lower if you cant find a low carb spagetti sauce*
You should not be going without anything.Thats why fat to skinny works my friend its because there is a replacement for everything!Thats why we have ask umpa!

Can we use canned tomatoes?  None of the sauce here is lower carb.  The canned tomatoes I like have net carb of 5 per 1/2 cup.

We travel....allot so finding the lowest carb pasta sauce is always an exercise in label reading. The latest find came from Albertsons super market. Go to your local market and start flipping the cans, read the labels and find the lowest. You'll be shocked at the amount of sugar in many brands!. Once you find what you like share the brand on the forum.

The brand we found is Victoria Marinara- 2 grams per 1/2 cup

You all made me hungry for chili with a previous post, and you were talking about what beans to use. I didn't use beans, but had some cauliflower left over and used that.

In a electric skillet I slowly sauteed with Olive Oil:
 1 clove of garlic
 1/4 cup chopped onion
 1/8 cup chopped celery
1 cup cauliflower - small pieces washed (RAW) I wanted a more crisp texture to the finished recipe.
 1/2 Teaspoon Kick-en Chicken spice!

I cooked hamburger separately in my Tupperware cooker then added to sauteed mixture and cooked for a couple of minutes.
I then added one 15 oz can of tomato sauce for that is what I had. I think it was 2 carbs for 1/4 cup.

I let the mixture cook covered for awhile until I was too hungry to wait, and then had a bowl on top of romaine lettuce with a slice of Avocado, and a couple of no carb olives! And sprinkled cheese on top of the Chili.....

I have pictures but just couldn't figure out how to add to my post. I love this chili, and each person making recipe can use amounts according to how they like the different flavors.

Umpa...my husband loves Wendy's chili so he wants beans in it.  He didn't care for the sound of the low carb version w/o any beans.  To keep it low carb you mentioned black soy beans?  with that added how much of the beans should be added and how will that change the amount of net carbs per serving?  He would rather stay as close to the original recipe as possible. Can you help????

Here is the official Wendy's chili recipe...work your magic. :D

Wendy's Chili

                   1 - pound ground beef

                   1 - 14.5 Oz. can tomato sauce

1 - 14.5 Oz. can kidney beans (with liquid)

1 - 14.5 Oz. can pinto beans (with liquid)

                   1/2 cup diced onion

                   1/4 cup diced green chilies

                   1/4 cup diced celery

                   2 medium tomatoes, chopped

                   1 teaspoons cumin powder

                   2 tablespoons chili powder

                   1 teaspoon black pepper

                   2 teaspoons salt

                   1 cup water

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat; drain off the fat.

  2. Using a fork, crumble the cooked beef into pea-size pieces.

  3. In a large pot, combine the beef plus all the remaining ingredients, and bring to a simmer over low heat. Cook, stirring every 15 minutes, for 2 to 3 hours.

     Makes about 12 servings.

Thanks!

Beebs gets a gold star!
Beebs is right, you have to pick the lowest tomatoe product(which for me is usually marinara) you can find.Black soy beans I buy are one carb per serving.
Please post your results its a great recipe!

Izzet when I make mine I put the soybeans in when I put the raw groundbeef in the pan. Then the veggies and rest of ingredients. That way by the time its done the beans are soft like kidney beans. ;)
Don't forget chilidogs with the leftovers! :)

I made my chili in the crock pot so the black soy beans had lots of time to soften and pick up the flavour of the spices.

We just purchased one for a great price at Walmart and hubby is enjoying making his chili and we thought about cooking a corned beef and other things we can let simmer.  I wish I could find those black soy beans locally...will check the health food stores.  I love me some chili especially in the winter months.  Need to come up with some good low carb soup recipes as well! :)
