Newbie just starting out
« on: July 20, 2010, 12:29:10 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm new to the site, just bought the downloadable book yesterday. I need to kick my sugar addiction badly and your methods seem to make the most sense. Wish me luck, I'll keep my progress posted.

Thanks for all the encouragement, and thank you Umpa for your offer to help convert recipes, I'll take you up on that offer.  It looks like I may need to use the web for some of the products mentioned in Doug's book, I've done a bit of looking around and the health and natural food stores here in Ottawa seem to be a bit lacking in low carb products. I still have a lot of places to check out though, and right now I'm pretty content eating lean meats, salads, cheese and a low carb protein shake I have.  :D

Anytime SteveO,I love a challenge! I don't know if you have Whole Foods or a natural food store in Canada but they carry alot of the products.I like to use normal ingredients as much as possible in my recipes because we have alot of forum members in the U.K and they cannot get some of the products without a huge shipping charge. ;)

Welcome Steve,  myself started on Monday July 19, it was rather odd the first 3 days (sugar withdrawal), but things are kinda stabalizing.  No hunger, very much more alert, not sluggish, it is awesome.  Suzanne

Well I'm pretty amazed, I stepped on the scales this morning and was down 10.5 pounds!!  I know most of that is water but I also know from past experience that the fat will start melting off soon too. I am waking up without feeling sluggish, most mornings I have just wanted to roll over and sleep in. Umpa  found a site here in Canada called 'thelowcarbgrocery.com' that seems to have all the products that are mentioned in Doug's book. I ordered tortillas, GG crispbread, Beanit butter and a couple of other products to try out. It was ordered on Thursday and I received it on Friday!
I took a couple of 'before' pictures today, that is how confident I am that this is really going to work. Thanks everyone for your encouraging words and support!  ;D

Hi Steve, Welcome to the most awesome support group in the whole, wide world.  It's a great place to learn and share and encourage each other.  I have learned more in the last couple of months from being on here and reading Doug's book than I have in years of researching to make sure my husband eats right for a type 2 diabetic.  We are both doing a whole lot better.  We still have a way to go but we now know we can do it.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2

What makes you think this is water loss? Did you starve yourself, take water pills, sit in a sauna for 6 hours each day??  This is FAT loss my friend...Your body is feeding off of itself for fuel....congrats! ;)   Stay the course!

Hi everyone. Well week 2 is done and it has been an interesting one, this morning the scales read 299 lbs, just one pound lost the whole week. I must admit I have been a little frustrated weighing myself this week, I seemed stuck at 300 lbs until Friday. I realized that a couple of things have probably affected my weight loss this week, number one I have been on vacation this week, so until Thursday I'm sure my physical activity has been less than when I am at work. Also being at home though I was still not eating carbs or sugar, I'm pretty sure I have eaten more than the previous week in calories. This weekend I had my first real challenge in fighting cravings to eat some junk food. I think part of the problem was frustration over the minimal weight loss, although I know as someone recovering from other addictions that my mind will think up whatever excuse I need to have me succumb to the craving. I had a fudgecicle and about 20 chips but today is a new day and I start all over with renewed hope.  ;D
