no more medication
« on: July 08, 2011, 07:37:26 PM »
I had my 6 month doctor visit on Thursday. My numbers were good and he took me off my Onglyza for diabetes. Since I've been on a plateau, we talked about weight issues. I had set my goal weight for 150 pounds, but he said it should be 130 pounds. I am 5 ft 7 inches tall. He said to maintain my weight at 130 pounds once I get there, I would need to consume 1300 calories. So, he wants to to continue with the low carb, but also add the boundary of staying at or below 1200 calories per day. He also suggested a fasting day once a week or so. At the very least, I should get off this plateau. I am using the FatSecret ap on my phone and I love it. I think I owe Rena a big thanks for pointing that one out! Yesterday, I came in at 1124 calories for the day. I"m hoping that this will get me the rest of the way to my goal. I need to adjust my ticker to represent my new goal, too.

Awesome about the meds! :)

Good luck with the new goal. I'm 5'8" and set my goal weight at 145. I'm 7 pounds away, so hopefully I can do it. I'm sure you can too. I don't know about the fasting day your doctor suggested, but let us know how that goes for you. I'd get cranky if I went without eating like that.

Good luck again and congrats on the meds!

Hooray on getting off the meds, owensmath! :) :) :) :)

When it comes to fasting, I become a real grouch!
I guess I can't handle the sustained, very low blood sugar.
Also, if I don't eat all day, I won't sleep either. Which in turn, will make me even grouchier the next day.
And I would like to stay married to my wonderful wife! ;)
What you do today is what matters!

I haven't done any fasting yet. I just began applying the 1200 calorie limit on Thursday. I weighed myself a few minutes ago and I'm down 4 pounds since Wednesday night. I am comparing my night time weights so it's fair. I will check in the morning to see if my Thursday morning weight and Sunday morning weight are also 4 pounds apart. I'm just thrilled to see the scale moving in the right direction again. I'm still doing FTS, keep that in mind. I'm just doing way better on the portion control. I'm a numbers person and this is helping me to see every calorie and carb much more clearly.

It's really not about calories, it's about our actual "need" for food. Donna, if you find yourself satisfied with the quantity of food you're now eating then it's obvious your prior portions were too large.....are you finding yourself hungry? If not, point made  ;)

I want to chime in on the 130 pound goal and the fasting day. I believe 130 for your height is too low and I think fasting is a mistake. Instead of a fasting day I suggest an ultra low carb day. , here's a suggested ultra low carb day menu;  4 net carbs for the day.

Break- 2 eggs, small minute steak or burger, slice of cheddar cheese (2 net carbs)

Lunch- 1 1/2 cups stir fried Bok Choy in butter  (1 net carbs)

Dinner- Grilled chicken breast with a wedge of ice burg lettuce (1 net carb)

Snacks if required- cheese cut from blocks to avoid potato starch

That's my take on it  ;)

When I type Doug's menu into FatSecret it comes up with 776 calories and 3.88 net carbs.

Just to give you an idea ...

Yay on the no more medication!!  That's so awesome :)  I agree with Umpa on the weight; but like she said I'm not a doctor!  I'm only 5'4" and my goal is 145.  It's considered "high end" for appropriate weight for my height.  But I know when I was that before I looked gooood!  I was also bulimic  :-[.  This time I'm doing it in a positive and healthy way.  Good luck to you, do what is right for you.

I agree with you Jen.You have to pick a weight you can maintain.I like myself at 150. That puts me in a 8-10.I am 46.I can maintain it with no problem at all.If you pick too low a weight you will set yourself up to fail, because you will not be able to maintain. :)
And by the way curves are cool! ;D
