Dinner Recipes / fried fish my way .
« on: February 23, 2013, 08:53:55 PM »
1/4 cup golden flax meal.
salt, pepper, garlic powder, hint of hot pepper mix with flax.
One scrambled egg, and a little drop of heavy cream.
Hot oil, I use canola.
fish filet's.  I use cod, whiting, or flounder.
Dip fish in egg wash, now into flax mixture. They will be nice and crusty.
Now put in hot oil and fry them up approx 6 minutes a side depending on thickness of fillet.
When done add some fresh lemon, a shot of hot sauce. For a side dish, I make coleslaw from the FTS book.
This is a great meal. ;)

General Discussion / Rutabagas
« on: January 30, 2013, 06:35:24 PM »
SO I went to the store today, and picked up some turnips. I noticed Rutabagas, I taught they were turnips.
I did not pick one up; Didn't know the carb count. They look just like turnips, only more color.
Any thoughts on them. I never ate it.????????

« on: January 30, 2013, 11:12:47 AM »
Saw this on DR. OZ.
What do you folks think? How can we make this better, as I hav'nt tried it.
 Dr. Oz Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients
Serves 2

10 cups cauliflower florets, steamed soft
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp unrefined virgin coconut oil, divided (more or less if needed)
2 cups roughly chopped broccoli florets
1 small bok choy, roughly chopped (about 2 cups)
8 oz poached chicken, diced
Freshly ground pepper

Directions
Preheat the oven to 400°F degrees. Purée the cauliflower, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of the coconut oil in a blender until very smooth. set aside. In a medium pan sauté the broccoli for 2 minutes in 2 teaspoons of coconut oil, until lightly browned and starting to soften a bit. Transfer to a bowl and cook the bok choy for 2 minutes, in the same pan, adding a little more of the coconut oil if necessary, until starting to brown. Transfer bok choy to the bowl with the broccoli. Add the diced chicken, 2 cups of cauliflower purée, 1/2 teaspoon salt and freshly ground pepper and gently toss. Transfer mixture to a 4 cup baking dish, top with the remaining cauliflower purée and bake for 20 minutes until hot and bubble. If you like to brown the top a bit, broil for a few minutes after baking.

General Discussion / Luck of the Irish
« on: January 17, 2013, 12:48:02 PM »
In the past, Every St Patrick'S day, my mom would make corned beef, and cabbage. In the pot went the beef, cabbage, and of course POTATOES.
so, everytime I make this dish I remember Mom and Dad, both whom have pasted. One of the best parts was putting butter on that hot potato , and watching it melt. yummy!. you just can't beat beef, and potatoes. IT was one of my favorite meals. SO now for the good part of this story. TURNIPS. TURNIPS TURNIPS!. I have followed Doug's FTS book. and started using Turnips, re; fried, baked etc. And you guessed it, I now can have one of my favorite dishes..
Corned beef cabbage and turnips. IT taste just like ma used to make, and there is hardly any difference from turnips it tastes just like a potato, oh yes with the butter melting all over it of course. So thanks to FTS I can have fond memories of the past, and stay healthy to.
Saint Patrick' s day is right around the corner. March 17, Turnips get ready.    ;) ;)

Since my adopted new FTS life style is a lifelong venture.
I cleaned out my pantry, and donated all my sugar foods, re: ; Pasta, jams and other can goods, to my local food bank.
Hate to waste it, so this was the best method. The journey continues.  ;)

General Discussion / Another reason to be on a low carb Diet.
« on: January 12, 2013, 12:08:49 AM »
Here is a copy of an article from NY Daily News.  Perhaps the Harvard researchers should talk with Doug.

Do you look for the Whole Grain Stamp on the front of the package? Scrutinize the ingredients list? Or just toss the food in your cart and hope for the best?
If it all sounds way too complicated, you're not alone. A group of Harvard researchers says many whole grain foods are loaded with more carbs, sugar and calories than we realize — and the government and food industry need to come up with a better way to tell us what's healthy and what's not.
Lead researcher Rebecca Mozaffarian and her team began looking at whole grain foods while compiling recommendations for healthy afterschool snacks for kids.
"We wanted to recommend to serve healthy whole grains for afterschool programs, and we realized it wasn't quite as straightforward as we expected it to be," Mozaffarian, a project manager in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Harvard School of Public Health told the Daily News.
