Title: My first week weighin!
Post by: jen1975 on March 27, 2011, 11:06:11 AM
Wow, I don't think I can complain at all!  I lost 5.2 lbs my first week here!  That is so awesome!!!  In the past I would be doing good to hit that in a month of starving myself and killing myself at the gym!   YAYYAYYAY!!  ;D ;D ;D

:D :D  Thank you all!  I am feeling better.  The amazing thing is, before I HAD to have chocolate every single day!  And I've not had any since I started and don't crave it!  Not saying I'm not going to get some WF or Hershey's SF to have on hand....lol.  But I'm feeling pretty good!

That's fantastic, Jen! :) :) :)

Just be careful with SF chocolate or any other SF sweets.
Eating them more than occasionally (once or twice a week) often causes weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) stall outs.
Also eating too much at a time can cause lower bowel problems (gas, loose stools, etc.).

Congratulations!  What a great week!
I loved those SF chocolates...I had to give them up very quickly.  My weight stalled out and they gave me tremenduos headaches.  Be careful with those!
But they are sooooo yummy!

Have a great 2nd week!

Hi y'all.  This is my 4th week - only .6# this week.  Trying not to be horribly bummed; it's still down!  And this was my TOM and I know from reading everyone else that that particular week often sucks for weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/).  Ehh, next week will be better! Y'all have a great day!
Title: Re: My first week weighin!

Jen do not weigh yourself during TOM. It will never be accurate and it will make you cranky! :D

Hi Jen! :)

And don't become obsessed with what the scale tells you.
Often, when our weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) slows or stops, inches will be disappearing.

Also, most of what happens to our bodies while we lose weight (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is not visible to us.
Our bodies go through a series of complex chemical adjustments.
How long these adjustments take varies from person to person.
If you happen to be one of those folks that take longer, don't let it discourage you!!!

The scale is actually the LAST place our weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is actually apparent.

mouseissue, I notice that you are almost halfway to your goal.  I am so proud of you!  You are doing so great!

Thanks skychant! :)

I'm in my 36th week.
It's been a rather slow but enjoyable (and tasty) journey.

Last week, I took my monthly measurements and noticed that a quarter inch here and half inch there disappeared since last month.

I've long since made up my mind that FTS will be a part of my life for the rest of my days.
I feel SOOOO MUCH better than I did before!... It's unbelievable!

Going back to my old ways is not an option.
Would anyone (in their right mind) knowingly and willfully destroy their health by going back to their old ways?
I, for one, WILL NOT!!!

Okay, weigh in time - up .4# this week.  I know I did super well this week eating wise... It is what it is.  We bought a new scale yesterday, but I didn't get the chance to see how it compared (number wise) to the old one  :(   At least this scale should show a lower number next week!  And yes Tony, I finally did measurements today so I have that to compare going forward :D

Don't feel bad Jen.... when I bought my new scale last week I went up to.  I think my old one was just off.  I still feel great so I'm not to worried.  Besides we can always retain that much in fluid even in one day... Your doing great  ;)

Week 7!!  Weight only down .2lbs :P.   I would be really irritable about that, but THANK YOU Tony!!!!  I did my measurements last week and repeated them this morning and Holy Crap!!!   ;D  I've lost 6-1/2 inches all over!  1-1/2 inches in my waist and 1-1/4 inches in my hips alone!  I started back to the gym this week and was worried what that might do to my weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) (I'm sore as all get out lol).  But I think as long as my numbers are going down somewhere I'm OK with it!  And I tried on my 14's (jeans) and not only was able to pull them over my hips and butt; I was able to button and zip them!  And breathe!  I'll call this week a good one!  Happy Mothers Day to all you moms!!  Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Hi Jen! :)

I so pleased to hear about your success and that you are learning that weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is more than a number on a scale. :) :) :)

By the way, there may be periods when you may see no apparent changes. But don't let that bother you.
As we are all different, this will vary from person to person.

There are times that our bodies will make metabolic changes to accommodate our changed weights.
This is a good and natural thing that we have little control over.

As long as you stick to the FTS rules, you weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is assured!

You are doing great Jen.

Sometimes I don't see any weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) for a few weeks, but then my shoes are falling off me, my rings almost fell off in the shower this morning, I fit into things I thought I outgrew.

My husband refuses to step on the scale...I beg him so I can see his progress but he won't budge.  I should be like him.

Hi y'all!  I am hoping all my drama is done for a bit - thanks all for the support while I was gone!  Weighed in last Sunday, down .9 lbs - which for me was quite shocking considering I think I ate most of a whole bag of Russell Stover SF Candy in that week!  :P  This week I am down 3 lbs!  Closing in on 20 lbs gone!   ;D  Again, thank you to everyone, I know you all were sending good thoughts my way!

Congratulations Jen! :) :) :)

You were fortunate to lose that weight considering you ate so much SF candy.
If I did that, I would stall out for about 2+ weeks!!!

If you can avoid it, don't tempt fate like that again.
Next time, you might even gain weight! :(

Hi all!  I just got home from Las Vegas today!! It was great - really hot, but fun.  I know my weight will be up some when I weigh in on Sunday - I slipped a bit the last 2 days.  But I'm getting right back on track!  My husband is actually eager to get back on "our schedule" as he put it!
I have to share though.  I got "checked out" SOOO many times!!!  I have to say, it feels good to feel good!  I even had a guy 10 years younger than me hit on me at the pool one morning! LOL! :D  My husband and I were in a line and another guy apparently was looking me up and down and my hubby actually got a little possessive (he usually doesn't at all)!!  He made sure to keep his arm around me after that LOL! :D
Just had to share my little triumphs of the last week!  Like I said, fully expecting to be up some on Sunday.  So be it.  I will take it off again!
  Love to you all!!

Hi all!  Sunday weigh in - up .3#s :P.  Disappointed, but I expected it since I made SEVERAL bad choices - Yesterday!  Couldn't have done it earlier in the week so I'd have time to take it back down again! LOL!  I am planning better for this coming week, so I know it will come back off.  Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Hi Jen! :)

Think about the circumstances surrounding those "bad" choices and prepare yourself for similar ones in the future.

To succeed at anything, planning and preparation is 80% of the job.
The remaining 20% is doing it! ;)

You will do just fine! :) :) :)

Still inching along here - about a lb or so a week.  Just realized I haven't done measurements in a while - guess I'll do that this coming Sunday.  I wish clothes were more consistent.  I have 2 pairs of 14s and 2 pairs of 16s and 1 pair of each are a little tight and 1 pair of each fall off my butt!  ???  Phht.  Still better than really really tight 18s!!  :D

Question for y'all - maybe especially the guys?  My hubby is having a heck of a time.  He's been stuck at 195-196 for probably at least 6 weeks now.  He's really frustrated with the lack of change right now.  I don't think he's seeing a change in how his clothes fit either.  I guess the question is - is this normal?  He does pretty well with sticking with it, although he mentioned the other day that he feels like he's hungry all the time.  He's never experienced me losing more weight than him before!  :o

Thanks everyone!  I think we need to have a "family reunion" at some point!  I would love to meet you all in person so I can give you huge hugs and thanks for helping us all succeed and be healthy!! ;D

Hi Jen! :)

Feeling hungry all the time means he's not eating enough for his metabolic needs.
If he does not eat enough, his metabolism will go into self-preservation "famine mode" and FAT burning will shut down.

Ask him to SLOWLY increase his portions of protein based foods until he no longer feels hunger.
Just a few more ounces a day of meat and/or cheese could make all the difference.
With this, increase PLAIN water and fiber intake to avoid constipation problems.

If I were him, I'd eliminate all foods with sugar alcohols (sweeteners) at the same time.

@Umpa - He's 5'11" and wants to get to 180.
@ Tony - Thanks for the input!  I did tell him he needs to increase his protein if he's hungry.  I know he drinks some water through out the day but I'm not sure how much.

He's so used to in the past, he just gave up his beer and hit the gym and weight would drop right off him.  Now, he can't drink anymore because of his medications anyways and he's not able to work out like he used to...

Hi Jen! :)

Tell your hubby he has my condolences. :'( :'( :'(
If I had to completely give up beer, I'd be very unhappy!

I enjoy a few light beers about once a month.
Any more than that, and my already slow weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) progress comes to a complete stop.

Fall salmon runs are already showing up in our local rivers. That means I'll be smoking salmon very soon.
There is nothing in the world as good as smoked salmon with sharp cheese and ice cold beer!
YUM!!!... I can taste it already!!! ;D ;D ;D

Hi all!  Sunday weigh in - I was up .6lbs.  >:(   I know my own fault - I had a very not FTS margarita yesterday.  I almost think I still undermine myself when I get close to my mini goals (30# is my next one).  Looking back over my posts here I am starting to see a bit of a pattern!  I will take it back off this week, I know this.  My next goal after this will be a short one - 1/2 way through my weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) (32.8lbs).  Love you guys!  Thanks for always having my back!  ;D ;D

Hi Jen! :)

Being someone who loves his occasional beer, I've studied up a bit on what happens in our bodies when we drink.

FAT burning will stop until the alcohol consumed is completely metabolized.

During this metabolism, it takes about 72 hours for the alcohol, the increased triglycerides (blood fat) it causes, and the increased water retention, to completely metabolize out of our bodies. This will vary a bit depending on how much we drink.
So seeing the scale rise a day or so after drinking is to be expected.

And now that you've recognized that you undermine myself near reaching goals, you can prepare yourself.
Knowledge is power... Use it to your best advantage! ;)

I worked Labor Day for my boss.  She sets up a cargo wago and sells her famous home-made ice cream (chocolate and vanilla) along with Black Angus burgers/chips/sodas, etc.  I had to help her do this and I was exposed to all these goodies.  I never ate any except a hamburger pattie and a diet Coke all day long.  LOL  However, I have gained back 4 pounds because I have eaten some small amounts of bread/pasta products over the past two weeks.  I know how to fix this, so I'm back on the FTS again.  I know I can do it.  I'd like to lose another 10 pounds.  I think I can, I think I can!!

Thanks for tne encouragement everyone!  That home-made ice cream is a killer for a lot of people.  I'm around it all the time!  I've even learned not to "lick" the dipper.  HA HA!  Not that I'd do that anyway, but maybe my fingers.  The burgers I can have, just not the buns.  That helps.  I weigh on Sunday, we'll see how I'm doing.  Over at the nursing home where my husband lives, the CNA thought I was his daughter!  Now I know I'm getting skinny!  LOL   :D :D :D

Hi y'all!  I went to the doctor yesterday for the results from my bloodwork.  Here's the lowdown:
  since March my....
Total cholesterol went from 300 to 239
LDLs went from 221 to 169
Non-HDL-C (don't know what this is but dr was happy)  went from 244 to 181
My Triglycerides are 66 (don't know what they were previously)
My blood sugar went from 104 to 88
 My A1C went from 5.1 to 4.4
My weight went from 208 to 179 (their scale runs higher than mine, but still equals to the same loss).

Thank you to all of you for helping this to happen!!  My cholesterol is still high, but I'm not even to half way yet so I have no doubt I can get it down further!

Hi everyone!  I know I haven't been around much lately, I've just been in a funk.  >:(   I'm still checking in pretty much every day, I just haven't been very talkative I know.  I think it's partially weather here, and I'm having a hard time with my job right now.  I got on the scale and I'm down to 172.6, which is down almost 2lbs over the last couple weeks altogether.  I went up 1lb and stayed there for a week solid then dropped it the next week.  This week I am down 2lbs from there.  Just bouncing around right now!  But that is over my 1/2 way mark! :)  Another goal reached and passed!  Thanks to you all for always being here!

Hi Jen! :)

Nothing about our bodies looks or works in a straight line.

Whether we like it our not, our weight will naturally fluctuate up and down.
weight loss (http://www.fattoskinny.com/) is about the long term trend being downward.
From what I see, you're on your way to your goal! :) :) :)

Fall is a "funk" time of year for many folks. I too feel it a bit each year.
It may be due to the days getting shorter.
I believe that this is why the holidays fall in the Winter months... They gives us something to lift our spirits.

I've found the best way to beat this "funk" is to get up before sunrise and thank the Lord for another day and another chance.

Hi Jen! :)

I would guess that you weighed about 170 for a substantial period of time in the past making that weight a "set point".

As our weight drops, when we reach a previously established "set point", our loss will temporarily stop.
How long we're stopped depends on how long we were at that weight before.

However, by sticking to the FTS rules, our bodies will eventually give in! 8)

Way to go, Jen!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hi y'all; just wanted to ask if someone would please tell my body to stop going the wrong way?! >:(  Up .3 this week and have been being VERY good.  I've been detoxing this week from the holiday "little of this little of that".  And granted this week TOM visited too  :'(.  But seriously!! Wrong direction!!  Aargh!
I will be going on vacation next week to see my family who have not seen this new me yet.  Super excited for that!  I will still check my weight but probably right before I go then not again til I get home.  I'd rather stick to my own scale.  My mom is sooo worried that she'll cook something wrong or fix something I "can't" eat.  I told her, it's really easy - meat and veggies.  That's all!  I am taking almond flour and ground flax with me though.  They live in an area where there really isn't much in the way of health food stores.  And I don't wanna pay $11 for almond flour! :P

Had a scare last night!  Woke up feeling like my whole body was on FIRE!  Ran into the bathroom and turned on the light and I was bright red head to toe - looked and felt like a second degree sunburn!  I was sweating more than I did in Las Vegas in July, then I collapsed on the floor and was too weak to get up.  Ended up in the ER this morning and finally figured it out...  I'm thinking I'll try something besides Slo-Niacin for lowering my cholesterol!!!  My Dr. recommended it during my physical last month and I finally bought some and took my first dose last night.
Ya know, when they say "niacin flush" I figured that meant you know, you got a little red and flushed.  Not burn alive and collapse on the floor!!!  The ER doc said that severe of a reaction is rare, but does happen sometimes.  And Slo-Niacin is formulated to be controlled release and less reaction....good thing I didn't take immediate release!

Oh wow I haven't ever heard of that Jen  :o :o  Is it a prescription or over the counter?  I'm so glad you are alright though

I had a less severe reaction to the same med, recommended by the same doctor.  I didn't get weak but I was red and burning and itchy.  So much for slow release.

About 8 years ago, I accidentally took too much niacin, by taking a multi on top of a B-vitamin.  My reaction was shorter lived, but when it hit, it felt like I was on fire as well.  All of my skin turned beet red and my skin down to my fingertips tingled.  It was scary!  It passed after what felt like half an hour, but once we figured out what had happened, I made sure that I didn't make the same mistake again!  I sure hope that hot flashes aren't like that!  ;D

Ah, hot flashes! THAT I can relate to! Never had one that sent me to the ER, but they're 'interesting'! I always thought I'd comiserate with my mom about hot flashes, but my dad had prostate cancer and was given hormone shots - HE had hot flashes, Mom never did! Dad and I kept little personal fans handy. ;D

SloNiacin is now available over the counter, it used to be prescription only.  It was very scary, probably more so because it woke me up and I had no idea what was going on.  Never felt like that before though!  Like I said, don't think I'll be doing niacin again!  In ANY form!

We take non flush niacin everyday ;) Hot flashes are no big deal,I call them power surges.I cure mine with hops! One beer takes them away. :D

Having experienced both "niacin burn" and  hot flashes, I'll take a hot flash any day.

Hot flashes aren't so bad, but alcohol always seemes to bring them on full force for me...LOL  It doesn't seem to matter if it's in a beer or not  :-\

Hi all!  Back from vacation in the deep south!  Didn't do great, I'll be honest - up 2.3#.  Back to square one for me.  I'll be shopping today so I can get back on track and get through detox again.  And, TMI for some I apologize, my digestive tract does NOT travel well, guessing I'll lose some of that once it starts working again!  :o  It's definitely interesting to travel through some of these VERY rural areas; is it just me or does the obesity issues seem to be worse there?  I also drank (way) too much one night out with my sister.  Remembered why I don't do that anymore  ;D ;D   All in all, it was awesome to see my sister and my parents, I miss having them nearby already.  And I got to go to the beach! :)  I'm not a big water person, don't like to be in or out on it; but I love to be near it.  Hope everyone is doing well; it will take me a bit to get through all the posts.  Happy Sunday!

Hey Jo, I have a friend - a bit complicated, but her friend's son is 14 with Type 1.  He's in the hospital right now because his pump stopped working and he got very messed up I guess.  But she was telling me today that his sugar routinely runs over 300!  And he eats everything/ anything because he just uses his pump if his sugar is too high?  Any suggestions from you/ Tyler that she might be able to pass on to the mom?  She's super worried, but not real sure how to approach her about it.  I showed her your post of Tyler with pics and that his A1C was at 6.1.  She was very impressed by him, especially that he is doing so well by his own choices.  Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.  :)

Hey Jen  Copy and paste this and send this to her and give her my email if she wants it .
First tell her I am so sorry and second tell her to take him off the pump !!!!!!!
We have never faltered and given in to the pump ,every child that has had problems and even passed away that I have read about has been on the pump ! Not that it is not happened on the shots . We use the flex pens , that pump is a green light for Type 1 Diabetics to eat whatever they want and they can not they need to be eating low carb & healthy 75-90 % !! He does have treat days but his sugar is high and he feels like crap so they are getting fewer & fewer .
Tyler has been diabetic for 6 years and I followed the advide from the docs for 2 years then I started researching low carb that is when his A1C went down from 9 to 6-6.1 . Every 3 months that we went to the doctor she would push the pump and say he would have better control on his BS . I told her we did not want the pump & after 2 years we started doing low carb and now she says that whatever yall or doing keep doing (no more telling us to get the pump )  I know that it is not the pump that gives you better control it is low carb /healthy eating .
I do not believe that teens or responsible enough to be in charge of a pump that is responsible for keeping them alive ! When they are babies and their mothers are in control it is different . What teens do is go eat blizzards & pizzas that are very high carb set their pumps up with a huge dose of insulin to coer what they eat then  if they  dont get enough insulin their  sugar will be to high and if they get too much insulin then they may not wake up !!!!

Even now on the shots when Tyler eats something high carb that he shoild not eat ,his sugar goes up and the insulin does not cover the high even though he took alot ,then 2 hours later his blood sugar goes low and makes him feel like crap .
Jen I could go on and on tell her to email me if she wants to just put diaetes in the subject or your name so  know it is her . because I could go on & on . . Also tell her I am so sorry that he is not well ,she must take control !!!!!

Hi y'all!  I know I haven't been around much lately.  I'm at my 1 year anniversary now... Down 40#, apparently my body is REALLY happy at this weight right now  :P :P  I won't lie, since all my health issues back in Nov/Dec I have been completely stuck.  I am happy with the loss, don't get me wrong but I'd hoped to be further along by now.  Four months now bouncing the same 3 lbs.  I've revisited the book, cut back on portions, cut out sweets....body's not budging.  However I'm still confident I will at some point break through!
I still check in all the time, I just haven't been saying much.  I have to say sometimes I feel like I'm failing although I know I'm not!  Love you all!

Thanks Umpa!  I don't think I have the carb counter, will you send it to me please?  I think I will start a food journal and see how that goes first; see if I can find things myself. Then if no changes I will start posting.  I start a new job next week, I'm very excited for that.  Should be much less....stressful lol. :o

Hi Sandrarbsn   We sure can have chocolate pudding...LOL  It is probably best that you make it yourself though.  Try this http://www.fattoskinny.net/index.php?topic=3373.0 (http://www.fattoskinny.net/index.php?topic=3373.0)  It wont be (ff) fat free though.  It would be kinda hard to get it fat free and creamy and low carb all at once  ;)  The box stuff or pre made in the store is a little high in carbs but if you save those carbs up you can sure have them   ;)

The other easy way is to just whip up some heavy whipping cream (make sure this is 0 carb)  and add sf chocolate to it.  It's basically chocolate whipped cream but will give the feel of pudding ..... Yummm!!!  easy peasy  ;)

I love how these threads branch out in every direction! I get the picture of a tree. Some trees are bushy, some are like weeping willows, and some are pretty sparse, but they're all interesting!

Hi Jen! :)

It's so nice to hear from you again!

Assuming your portion sizes have not increased, like Umpa said, "carb creep" may be the problem.
Post what you're eating, and we'll help get your progress restarted. :)

Hi all!  I know I've been super quiet lately.  Like I said - struggling with losing still.  Just started a new job, moving in a month, hubby is looking for a new job too.  Lots of changes!  I did drop below my 3lb bounce last week!  Yay!  Then I got on the scale 3 days later and was up - no lie, 3lbs!!   :o :o  I told my husband to hide the scale for the next 2 weeks.  I know it's partly that I'm weighing every day (bad bad bad) and I'm PMSing so I know my water weight is way up right now.
Although I know I haven't been speaking up much, I just want you all to know how much I appreciate all of you and still check in almost everyday!  And FYI, Doug and Umpa, the Zero is the BOMB!!  I keep yelling at my husband to stop using "my" stuff!  :D :D

Life can get very busy sometimes and we gotta do what we gotta do.
But never worry!... We'll always be right here for you!

And by all means, hide that darned scale!
Like Umpa says, they're evil and often misleading.

Hi all!  Just checking in...again.  I'm doing all right, finally starting to see the scale move consistently in a downward motion!  I broke a new plateau yesterday, below 160!  Only 20 more lbs!  I have been incredibly stressed out, and a odd side effect for me on this is that I've actually lost my appetite and my sweet tooth.  Not complaining, obviously!  I know my stomach has shrunk significantly, my portions are tiny now.  And if I eat too much I quickly become nauseous.  Hope everyone is doing well!  :)
