bad breath?
« on: June 04, 2010, 04:22:01 PM »
Omg, this is embarrassing, but I thought I should post it anyway. I lost another pound and a half today! That's the good news. The bad news is that I've notice that I am experiencing halitosis. I try to not get too close to anyone. It's super embarrassing. I've never had a problem with bad breath. I brush my teeth 3 times a day, use mouth wash, scrape my tongue. Visit the dentist regularly. Does anyone know what cures this without eating too much sugar free gum or mints because those carbs do add up. I know sometimes on low carb diets this does occur, but has anyone found something that makes it go away?

Don't be embarrassed! There's good news and there's bad news. The good news is the bad breath is definitely a sign that your burning FAT cells for fuel and Keytones are present in your saliva (causing the breath problem) The bad news is it's a side affect of the fat burning process and is much stronger in some people than in others. Now, how to deal with it;

Drink more water, chew sugarless gum, suck on sugarless mints. In particular, those that contain Xylitol also kill bacteria and can prevent cavities and keep fresh parsley in the fridge to chew a sprig or two a couple times a day. As for hygiene, don't brush your gums away it's not a dirty tooth issue BUT make sure to floss after eating meats to make certain you have no strands stuck between your teeth.

Decision time.......... FAT with sweet breath  or  SKINNY with a "temporary" breath issue that needs to be dealt with ??  I know my choice  ;D

Thanks! That is soo true. I would rather have temporary halitosis then stay fat or get fatter. I'll try these remedies!

Oh oh oh...I just told my husband today that his breath was foul and we thought it was a tooth problem.  He's not as strict as I am about the sugar but for him...he's really cut way back.  Trying to get him off the high sugar protein bars. lol

I know you asked Doug and I'm sure he'll answer but I found a bunch on the internet if you type in xylitol mints or gum but one brand stood out that seem very accessible called Spry.  I found it at vitamin shoppe.

I use ice breakers and it says it's sweetened with

sorbitol
malitol
asparatame
maltodextrin

I don't see xylitol :(

I'm thinking any health food store should have the Spry mints/gum as well as GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, or online at amazon like Umpa said.

This came off the Hersey's web site, but I haven't personally checked this product.

"In 2006, the ICE BREAKERS brand achieved a major breakthrough in the gum category with the introduction of ICE CUBES Gum. These cube-shaped pieces of gum contain ICE BREAKERS signature flavor crystals with a frosted, icy-cool layer of xylitol for an instantly cool, mouth-watering flavor. ICE CUBES gum is available in seven great mint and fruit flavors."
