Fresh Water Stripe Bass... who wooda thought :)

Ever see a fresh water stripe bass? Here's a pic of a nice one caught today I've fished salty stripers all my life. It's just in recent years fresh water stripes have made an appearance. Great fighting fish... Umpa thought the fish deserved to live to fight another day so I threw him back

I've heard that there are lakes in the Northeast that are homes to them.

We don't have them around here.
But we do have some BIG walleyes and BIG smallmouth and largemouth bass in the Columbia River.
Not to mention, Goliath-sized sturgeon.

Nice catch Doug!  My husband fishes for stripers every week on Lake Lanier.  They are his favorite ones to catch.  They put up a good fight, and he LOVES it.

Hey Umpa!  Sorry I just now saw your post!  I DO feel great!   I have just been maintaining my weight through the Summer & Fall, but sure hoping to get some more weight off by Spring. 

We haven't got another horse for me yet, but I am definitely still thinking about it.  We did board a friend's horse here for a few weeks.  It was neat having another one here, but you couldn't get one out to ride without the other one pitching a fit!   ha ha

Hey Doug, sorry I haven't been on here lately, and just saw your post.  As for the stripers, we did try eating one this past Summer.  Honestly, I really liked it!  After Phil cleaned it, he really wasn't interested in eating it.  ha ha  Apparently there is a nasty looking "stripe" inside that has to be cut out.....not pleasant.   (I didn't see all of that.)  What I saw was just really white fish filets.   I put some blackening seasoning on it, cooked it in a little butter, and enjoyed it.

I have envy looking at that fish; I used to fish for them when I lived in NYC. Now I live were there is no beach.    I miss the beach. Only freshwater fish were I am. I used to catch flounder, flluke, bluefish, strippers, and porkies.
Man I miss the beach.

Hi, Jetfan!

I've lived within reasonable driving distance to salt water all my life.
Even though the salt water around here is too cold for swimming, the fishing can be great!
But I fish the streams and lakes more as their much closer to home.

I suggest you get familiar with the lakes and streams around you.
Many host large bass, trout, jumbo perch, salmon, etc..

If you use light gear, fishing fresh water can be a total blast!
Not to mention, the flavor of the fish have a freshwater "sweetness" that is really good!
Just remember, like saltwater fish, the fresher, the better!

Used to live on Staten Island, would go to Bradley Beach a lot. I loved it.
