Bean Sprouts
« on: March 13, 2014, 01:34:28 PM »
I am having for lunch romaine lettuce, bean sprouts, a few almonds and sunflower seeds along with a sprinkle of feta cheese.  made my own dressing with olive oil; apple cider vinegar; water; Italian seasoning; red hot pepper flakes.  If you buy the Good Seasons Cruet (or container with tight fitting lid, then add 1/4 c vinegar; 3 tbsp. water; 1/2 olive oil and then add your own seasonings.  I don't trust the Good Seasons Italian Salad Dressing mix cause you never know what you are really getting - sugar and things you can't pronounce).

My girlfriend at work brought in loads of bean sprouts.

Does anyone know how to make bean sprouts?  I used to make them many many moons ago, but don't know how to start up.

I am hoping that bean sprouts are a good thing to eat on the FTS plan....
Thanks,

Very easy to grow 1 cup raw mung bean sprouts: 4 grams  carbohydrate plus 2 grams fiber and 31 calories ;)

Hi, Elizabeth! :)

Check Amazon.com;
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_20?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=sprouting+mung+beans&sprefix=sprouting+mung+beans%2Caps%2C323&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Asprouting+mung+beans

If you Google "sprouting mung beans", you'll find even more sources as well as "how to" info.
Just be sure to look for "Sprouting" beans.
If they've been processed or freeze dried, they may not sprout. :(

A convenient way to small batches is use mason canning jars with ring lids.
Just put lace mesh under the ring to keep bugs out and sprouts in. ;)

hey, great idea to 'search the web...'  duh -  Really, I am so sorry I didn't even think of that.   I am on the web all day at work, so probably burnt out in even thinking about it - but, in general, it is nice to make conversation on fts.  thanks all.  have a wonderful day!

Made a stir fry with vegetables from Trader Joe's, not super low in carbs, but was still a treat.

Trader Joe's is only about 1/2 mile from my house. I'm so thankful for that.
