Ask Umpa / Re: Is this ok to eat???
« on: January 24, 2013, 04:26:58 PM »
Tony and Morgan and everyone, I am sick and fatter each day.  I have to cut out dairy, my body can't take dairy.  I have to cut out artificial sweeteners, I get very sick from them.  I only tolerate stevia and perhaps xylitol.  I have to eat a little healthier with more nuts and seeds.  I have to get the greens in from my green smoothie each day...lots of different greens in it, avocado and berries.  I have to have those things.  I am not giving up on low carb, but I have to do low carb THIS way.  I feel sick, horrible, and fatter....and very inflamed.  I have a high CRP and I know dairy is exremely inflammatory.  Read this fantastic book (Doug you'll like this book too along with Johnny Bowden's Living Low Carb, which your book is in and got 5 stars)...which is by Jack Challem, called the Inflammation Syndrome.  He promotes low carb eating, but in a very healthy way...let me know what you think of it when you see it or read it.  It's what I will go by from now on, which doesn't exclude me from this forum, which I love, I will still be very low carb and will be posting and supporting others...asking questions here, etc.  but I have to take what I know to be true for me and cut out some things and still do this your way, Doug, but with some changes.  I am horribly bloated up today, fatter, sicker.

Doug and Sherri, Yes, I tried SamE long ago, I don't like it...acupuncture works better for me.  Doug, I have read and really liked the book.  I just seem confused because I know I can't exactly eat that way.  Not exactly.  Some of the things are way wrong for my body...dairy, Splenda, other things...I am just getting fatter and fatter each day even trying to eat this way.

I make sure all my nuts and seeds are raw, healthy, unsalted organic when possible

It's all dairy, Sherri and Doug, I have to cut it out, I feel fatter and fatter each day and bloated up.  I can't tolerate it.  I also can't tolerate any sweeteners except stevia and xylitol.  I have gained more and more weight eating the way I've been eating even in FTS.  I feel so sick, esp. from the SF candies, I am returning those to the store today.  For me, I will stay very low carb but MY BODY has to hae green smoothies with berries (mostly all greens in it) every day and I have to eat nuts and seeds.  I have to eat healthy, non-inflammatory foods.  I'm still working on this, but I can't eat the way I've been eating, I feel horrible.

Ask Umpa / Lactose intolerance?

I love cheese and it's hard to resist, but dairy sort of wreaks havoc on my body...bloating and all.  There are soy and almond cheeses, are those carby?  I stay away from soy pretty much too.  What is a good substitute for dairy on FTS?

Thank you Morgan for posting and thank you TooSweet also...get thee to the doctor.  Ugh. Colds are miserable.  I'm sorry.  I hear you,but I know in my heart I am eating a ton of calories.  I don't know how in the world to stop.  I just want to eat and eat and eat.  I really do keep it low carb.  I have to do better somehow.  I'm at a loss and worried (you all know by now that I'm a worry wart...badly, and I wish I didn't feel that way but I have PTSD).  I am pretty sure I've upward of 2000 or 3000 calories today and I'm not even done.  I used to do this years ago...I used to eat, every single day...no breakfast (wasn't hungry), for lunch a chicken breast, salad, veggies and a cup of brown rice.  For dinner same thing with salmon and instead of rice, a sweet potato with butter.  20 mins. of walking daily.  I lost 2 and a half pounds per week like clockwork.  When I wanted some breakfast, I would have a bowl of quinoa (that's a lot of carb) with flax oil on it.  My mood was better, my weight loss was great.  I hated the food, awful.  Now there are so many great and tasty things to eat low carb...stevia, cocoa, cheeses (I don't like to eat dairy but I need it with FTS), all kinds of great things...I LOVE these Flackers (I have to make them myself and whip my own cream), BUT EVERYTHING seem to be a trigger food for me.  Do I have to eat bland and tasteless food the rest of my life?  I'm also a hot wing fanatic.   I know I can eat almost all I want of those...I could live on those with Frank's hot sauce and blue cheese.  I feel I am still failing and still very fat.

Morgan, that's what I want to do!  Please tell me how you do it...in a blender or in a bowl with a whisk.  My mother died when I was young, so I'm so inept in the kitchen about so many things...thank you

6pm...on top of what I ate today already...whey shake with flax and chia, mongolian grill with friend, now eating about 12 Flackers with 3 thin slices Meunster cheese with a chocolate "shake" made with cacao (1/2 TBSP), stevia, choc. very low carb whey powder and chia seeds.
I feel I'm gaining weight not losing, eating way too many calories for sure.  BUT if I eat in a way where I have to worry about calories, I will fail.

Yikes...help

I hope you feel better soon TooSweet.  Thanks for sharing what you ate today, the cauli mash sounds so good.  I like mock mashed potatoes with cauliflower, very good choice.  Here's what I've had so far today:
 11:45am Whey shake
1:30pm I had a large lunch with a friend today at a Mongolian Grill...made it low carb had chicken with veggies in plenty of sesame oil...only used curry sauce, coconut milk, lemon, garlic, ginger, soy sauce and a little peanut sauce, liberal with the oil.  It was great and I ate plenty of it.  ...I did eat through the night last night though, trying to keep it small and low carb.  Up and down in the bed all the time.
I bought Land 'O Lakes whipped cream and it says 0 carbs and 0 sugar, but sugar is the 2nd ingredient and it says it's sweetened.  I've been eating and eating it...I know that can't be right.I bought some sugar free hard candy today for my sweet tooth.  If I eat too much of that, I get diarrhea so I need to limit it.
I can't help but feel I'm doing this all wrong.  I feel I'm eating too many calories.  I still can't reach myself to wipe myself, I know I haven't lost even a pound, I can tell.  When hungry, I drank zero soda (stevia sweetened), water, all kinds of things...the hunger was real.
Thank you for the help.

Yes, Tony, you're right.  It's dangerous to have around.  I seem to have too many trigger foods.  I bought myself some sugar free hard candy today for my sweet tooth. If I eat too much of that, I get diarrhea, so I have to be careful.  I better not use the whipped cream until I can find sugar free.

Thanks to all of you.  I only fly from Eugene, OR to Vegas, not from NY, I live in Oregon for the last 16 years, so it's only an hour and a half flight.  I'm leaving Monday, but afraid to go due to this flu epidemic.  Anyone know about it?  I really don't want to cancel my birthday trip.  Doug, you are so funny to post my old video on here!  LOL, thank you!  Thank you all for the help, but everything you suggested to me, the tortillas and the GG's are gluten.  I can't tolerate wheat at all...my heart races from it and I bloat up badly.  I will make my own flax crackers and thanks for the other links too.  I'll look at those.  Please note that I posted about hunger at night, I hope you can help with that posting.  Doug, sleep is a problem for me, some of it due to the pain meds I take and also I've been an insomniac for years.  That's hard.  So, please tell me answers to my other posting about the hunger I had last night (and what I did about it...ugh) and tell me what you all think about cancelling my trip due to fear of the flu...I mean the plane is bad enough, but in Vegas, everyone's there from all over the world, there are the casinos, the hotel, etc.  My husband and I will be out a lot as we have a rental car and he'll be taking photographs a lot in the desert.  But, still....

Lean On My Shoulder / Need help with hunger at night
« on: January 23, 2013, 01:32:19 PM »
I barely ate yesterday due to not being hungry, but got so hungry late at night, I ate very, very late.  Had some flax crackers (8 small ones) with a slice of cheese.  Still hungry, so later had more flax crackers with peanut butter (is PB ok on low carb diet?)...then even later in the middle of the night, still hungry, had a whey shake (very low carb) with chia seeds.  Where do you draw the line?  I'm even still hungry this morning.  When should we feed the hunger and when should be just go to bed very hungry?  Thanks for the advice.

I will post my meal plans here daily.  I posted yesterday but forgot where. Here's what I ate today, also a question first.  Does it matter if I get hungry late at night (we are all nocturnal in my home) and eat then?  That is eating when I'm truly hungry.  I can't worry about calories and I hope I don't have to.  I try to eat until I'm fairly satieted, but tonight, I ate a snack and I'm still hungry.  What should one do in this situation?  Here's what I've had today:
11:45am my famous very low carb whey shake (this is a great meal for me with chia and flax, almond milk and whey powder
4:30pm 4 "Flackers" with a thin slice of Meunster cheese
6pm a salad of romaine lettuce and spinach leaves with some of my Caesar dressing, with Costco rotisserie chicken chopped up and warmed in some Frank's hot sauce and blue cheese
8pm, a lighter version of my whey shake (just the powder with some almond milk and decaf, a little heavy cream in it too)
11:45pm 8 "Flackers" with a slice of Meunster cheese cut in small pieces to fit each cracker, Virgil's Diet Cream soda (this is really great, they sweeten it with stevia, has zero sugar and carbs)
I'm still hungry.
Also, did I do ok today?
Thank you for the help
